Ok so i keep having to verify GCF every time for my idle accounts but no may main. Help
[editline]4th January 2013[/editline]
I may have fixed it, I'll report back later.
While it's far from a main feature, i've found a bug in the value calculations.
It considers a weapon as 0,05 refined instead of 0,06(or, more exactly, 0,05555...) which leads to each refined being 10 scrap instead of 9 which skews values by a lot when you reach higher numbers
How to fix it? Find the last number in a value(say, 0,05 -> 5), add three more decimals of the same value(0,05 -> 0,05555) and round it back to two decimals after you've added everything together
While the value counter is a minor feature(and far from important), it'd be nice if you could put in a fix when it's such a simple one
What am I supposed to enter for my secondary steamapps location? I'm completely lost here.

I just want to be able to update my gcfs.

You make an exact copy of your steamapps folder (the one you update with for example your main account). Just copy paste it somewhere else, on the same driver or for faster speed on another hard disk.
You enter the copy of that folder as secondary steamapps.
It's the second steamapps folder you use for the mklink command.
Ie.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps is the main steam account.
Copy the folder 'steamapps'
Pasted i.e. to D:\tf2idle\steamapps\
If your idle accounts are located like this D:\tf2idle\idle1 (and so on)
You open a cmd screen (ctrl + r enter cmd)
navigate to it (if you need help with this: some tips.
to change from C:\ to D:\ you simply enter D:
to go to D:\tf2idle\idle1 you enter cd tf2idle\idle1
then mklink /D steamapps D:\tf2idle\steamapps
When you've updated tf2 with your main account (logging in from the C:\...\steam\steam.exe
press update GCFs in TF2idle
hopefully this doesn't sound too confusing
That seems to make sense, but am I copying the contents of the steamapps folder? I thought that's what the linking was for.

It's a bad idea to link to the steamapps folder of your main account(unlike what the tutorial here says)
Rather, install TF2 on your first idle account and symlink it to that folder
(If your main account updates TF2 while you're idling, you're stuck with the validation bug)

what exactly am I entering into that space?
Then, if i understood correctly, you enter the path to the second steamapps folder(in my case D:\Idle\steam1\steamapps)
[sp]To be honest, i've never used the "update GCF" button so i have no clue[/sp]
[editline]a[/editline]
Broke my automerge :(
I did use it, it just copies the updated gcf's from the "steam install location" to the secondary steamapps where all the idle steamapps are linked to.
But validation is still a sore pain.
Steam doesn't exit completely or clean? Too bad, you'll have to validate again.
Alright thank you. I'll try to follow the above instructions, but if I have it set up like the tutorial, what should I enter for the secondary location? or can I just update my main account and that will work?
didn't really follow the tutorial in this topic completely.
was first doing the tutorial mentioned in "Advanced mann-conomy: idling with multiple accounts"
There's some important info there too.
The tutorial here should be reworked a bit and needs more info for postconfiguration. Like what to do to get premium, being able to trade with the accounts ect...
Also there's no mention in the tutorial that you need a full version of sandboxie, otherwise you're stuck with 1 sandbox.
Should I give it a try?
A new tutorial would be awesome.

Hey, i just asked moussekateer if i could write one :v:
The tutorial does mention that you need a premium sandboxie account, though
cool didn't know :)
if you want someone to proofread it first, you may always pm me or something.

can this method solve the "validating TF2 files" for every one of idle accounts?
can this method solve the "validating TF2 files" for every one of idle accounts?
Sadly enough no. I have the validation problem every week for all my idle accounts (10).
What I do is the following (made it more understandable):
1. launch steam
2. double click team fortress 2
3. get this?

4. click cancel
5. rmb click on team fortress 2
6. go to properties > local files > defragment cache files

7. let the defrag run

8. when it finishes you get this

9. close properties
10. try launching team fortress 2 again
11. it should start without validating
12. repeat proces for each idleaccount
tip
The first time it'll take some minutes depending on how fragmented it is.
The following times it'll go a lot faster, depending on system load it takes me around 15 seconds (timed it a moment ago).
That's a lot faster than validating on each account.
I think I've found a much simpler way to get around the validating error. Basically, before you close the sandbox/turn off your computer, get the validating thing go through, and then once TF2 has opened up probably, close it. Afterwards, wait until TF2 has finished syncing with Steam, and then manually close Steam through the toolbar and let it finish the cloud sync there before closing the sandbox/turning off your computer. In futue, the issue should go away.
Also deleting appupdatestats.blob or whatever fixed it for me
so i just got a 'Item server is shutting down, item is unavailable temporarily' or something like that, what should i do when it appears?
close the idles and wait like a day or two?
let it idles?
or just restart those idles?
wait a few minutes and restart the accounts
i just happen to see them when i get up from bed, so i have to restart the whole 10 hour idle...? is that correct?
wait a few minutes and restart the accounts
wrong, don't restart anything, just ignore it, it will fix by itself
well i have restarted it, i doubt i'll get any items but i'll try anyway
btw is there any tutorial on how to use that API key? i got 1 generated, pasted into the tf2idle.exe settings but it doesn't work
i just happen to see them when i get up from bed, so i have to restart the whole 10 hour idle...? is that correct?
No you don't have to idle 10 hours consecutively. You just idle 10 hours at some point during the week to get your drops. You can do 2 hours a day 5 days a week if you want.
btw does it still count towards the idle time when you're idle when the item server down?
can anyone link me to a tutorial/explanation of API key? i've never used/understand API key before

When item server is down, what happens to me is my drop cap gets filled and i dont get any items.
API key is a unique code to access the API from steam (or another site/application).
It enables you to communicate with steam through other applications or sites that support it.
It's also a form of security to prevent against abuse of the API or malicious use.
You click 'go to registration page' on the dev section of steam.
Fill something in as domain, it doesn't even have to be a website. I just used my nickname.
In tf2idle it's used to monitor in realtime when an item drops on other accounts
so does the item drops is guaranted but capped? i just take a look at one of my idle account and he got nothing
edited : 2 of my acc
I got my avarage amount of items.
It's indeed capped at 10 hours in game. Idling beyond that is waste of resources, unless someone can confirm otherwise.
I run 5 accounts 1 night, the other 5 the following night.
I've got 3 idle accounts who have steamguard active for 15+ days.
Still have to wait till 15/01 for the last batch so I can trade with them.
Seems legit gonna try it right now.
