Anyway.
The idle worked and works great, though I can't get rid of this stupid validating... I've been through about 30 pages of this thread and tried pretty much everything that has been posted, Unless I missed something.
- Open a single unsandboxed idle, validating and copying all of the tf2 files into the other account folders
- Reinstalled steam into the respective idle directories
- Copied the GCFs from my man account's folder (source, multiplayer, orange box and tf2)
- Deleted the .blob files in the steam folders
- Validating each idle one by one
- Copied my main accounts tf2 folder into each steamapp account
- Downloaded a fresh install of tf2 and ran each idles' steam and tf2 one at a time to copy over the files.
And now I'm at a loss, I have no idea what to do and it won't stop validating.
The only option I can see as viable at this point is to leave all the steam accounts open all the time.
A few other, sort of misc questions;
Do you have to use the launch delay? I read somewhere in the thread that if you're still loading tf2 on one idle, and another idle starts to load tf2 - it will need to validate on all of the accounts. Is that right? Because I haven't been using it.
Also, is the "first launch" update GCF method necessary if you just downloaded a fresh install of tf2(the gcfs) into the secondary apps folder?
Might be a bit of a retarded format, I haven't slept much lately. I can clarify more if needed.

If you look at the posts on the previous page, you'll see that I had the same problem. This crops up from time to time and I don't know why. I will tell you how I fixed it though.
Delete the "team fortress 2" folder from each account under steamapps > delete all the GCFs > start up steam on one of the idle accounts > tell it to download tf2 > launch TF2 from that account, then close it and exit out of the steam account > copy the "team fortress 2" folder into each account folder under steam apps > All done, should be fixed now.
Supposedly the verification loops can be caused by allowing each account to update instead of updating the gcfs. You can tell them to not update tf2 under the steam library, but this doesn't seem to save very well. I also wonder if verifying multiple accounts at the same time can cause issues.
Yes, I have this timed perfectly so if it doesn't validate, the second one starts the second the first connects. It is time based, not event based, so if one starts validating the other will start while it's doing that.
Yes.

Wow thanks, Didn't think to check the last page haha. I'll do that and see if the problem persists.
Thanks :)
Also once you don't have problems anymore with validating i recommend to make a backup copy of the GCF files on a different location i.e. USB drive. You can also copy them over once the problem occurs again. Works for me.
I fucking love idling! It's like my weekly lottery, I look foward to it all the time.
I have 10 accounts (inc my main), which gives me enough to weapons to use the Fabricate Headgear option about 3 times, sometimes 4. And on top of that, I randomly find hats when idling, so thats a lot of hats per week. I love the random chance aspect of the Fabricate Headgear option too. I never know what I'm going to get which makes it all very exciting.

I hope you don't craft the one for 3 refined.
on some sites you can trade hats for 1.33 refined and reversed.
there you trade 2 hats for 2.66 refined
and you use the rebuild headgear, select the two previous hats, and you just saved 0.44 refined.

No problem, if you have a lot of accounts this process can be made much easier with robocopy and a batch file to read folder names from a list. (The only reason I even consider doing it. Worth it in the end though, takes longer to validate 3 accounts than it does to copy the files to 30 folders)
Okay I'd just like to point out that under Windows 8....I have 40 accounts idling simultaneously and I'm still 12/16GB for memory and like 40% CPU. No errors about fonts or anything like that....
I think I need to get me a few more premium accounts and see what I can do :P
Correction...I'm idling 40 accounts, playing Assassin's Creed 3 on full settings, and watching a full 1080p movie and I'm still not feeling any major lag....
I'm liking Windows 8...well once you get rid of Metro and Add the start menu back.

Yep the setup is identical.
Disable Metro - http://winaero.com/comment.php?comment.news.103
Start Menu - http://www.classicshell.net/
I should look for a upgrade kit then.
I normally don't jump ship fast when a new os is released.
But have enough spare time now, so why the hell not.

Honestly I wasn't going too....It is SIGNIFICANTLY faster loading and such. I'm glad I did, but for the love of all things they should just scrap the Metro interface and bring back the start button. Or at the very LEAST make the Metro an optional interface over the top of Windows.
Well you convinced me to do it now.
I wanted to keep away from windows 8. Was afraid that it was sluggish and bloated.
Could still activate with the promo for 15 EUR.

Good grief, you just made me install it too.
Microsoft should be paying you for referrals.(and make you responsible for future adverts)
this isn't msotly the benefit of having W8, but 16gb of ram....
Anyone also having connectivity problems lately?
like this error: smth about not having accounts ID? : not logging onto registered acc
@down
Really? I got drop worth 1.77ref on 6 accs, where usually i get worth 3ref. When I get only weaps minus useless crates. Maybe drop was bad this week or smth.
I see that line abot not logging onto registered account, all the time (I think) Master Vegito.
I still get drops.
Are there are other ways of fixing the validating than removing my tf2?
[editline]12th January 2013[/editline]
I can't spend the whole night to download.
setting up my items farm on win 8, lets see how it goes
I wasn't aware that windows 8 really had that different of an approach for handling ram usage. Seems a bit off to me.
I'm running W7 x64, with 12GB and I'm lucky to manage 12 accounts and all my chrome tabs at the same time.

I just installed W8, i'll do some testing tomorrow and return with the results

I've been doing some research and it looks like there are a few features that could explain the large boost in the ability to run multiple copies. There's a "memory combing" feature, which is just like deduplication for ram. I'd say that alone could account for the boost since I'd image most of what's cached by the tf2 process would be the same. I've really despised windows 8 in the testing I've done with it during prerelease, I don't know if it's worth upgrading simply for the ability to run more accounts simultaneously.
well I had some problems after upgrading my pc.
after some searching and vague posts discoverd that avast needed an update.
it was holding back some features of win8 and made it sluggish.
I thought avast used an autoupdate.

Just a question about this (also having validating issues), wouldn't this require me to redownload/reinstall TF2?
I'm not sure if you're suggesting that we make a copy of the .cfg files for TF2, and then place them back in after an idle account verifies it?
the weird flickering and errors happen again while trying to make 36th account run

Assuming you don't keep a backup for the .cfgs yes it would. Once you're hit with the validation issue I assume the .cfgs need to be replaced. If you wait to back them up until after there's a problem, it's probably too late and it won't help you.

If I use 50% of my ram on w7 x64 with 4gb ram on 6accs, then how the hell you can BARELY run 12?
Try clean mem man, It will help you

You are too dumb to use it apparently.
