Is it possible to disable steam guard for the idle-accounts without steam trading going straight to hell?
Is it possible to disable steam guard for the idle-accounts without steam trading going straight to hell?
no
For those wondering, if you have 8gb RAM (DDR3, if it makes any difference - It probably makes some) and Windows 7, you can idle with 8 accounts at once and still use the computer. One process takes around 0.47-0.48 gigabyte or just simply 0.5, and when I run 8 accounts I use around 7.2 gigabytes of my RAM, according to task manager.
Using Chrome and facepunch highers it to 7.12 :v:
The computer is p. much still useable, but with a tolerable amount of lag.
[editline]5th February 2013[/editline]
And with tolerable I mean almost none in chrome, some lag in Steam and some lag in some other programs.
[editline]5th February 2013[/editline]
Also my processor is i5 2500k, and this idling only occupies around 10% :v:
[editline]5th February 2013[/editline]
Okay update, it seems it lowered to around 6.3 GB usage. I guess you can squeeze in a few more, I just don't wanna close down all my background programs :v:
I can idle 8 accs and still play on the ninth with 4 GB.

I've tried all sorts of combinations, with and without specifying client ports.. the max i ever got was 18 accounts and I don't think some of them connected properly. I don't claim to know much but I've read forums and asked people for help and this is what I'm using right now..
+exec idle.cfg +exec listenserver.cfg -textmode -nosound -noipx -low -novid -nopreload -nojoy -sw -maxplayers

We'll need to have have more information than this. What errors are you getting specifically?
What part of the "I tried everything from google" did you not understand? Did you really think I'll ignore the first important google result that actually comes from Steam forums and matches my search query? Obviously you haven't had this issue so the first thing you do is do a google search and point me to it. It may be solving a problem for 1 steam account, but it isn't helping here.

I have the same problem, my server is launching the game in 192.168.1.64:270xx a few days ago it was 192.168.1.101::29xxx now I cant get more than 18 acc at the same time, the acc #19 is showing a message "wrong protocol" and cant connect to the local server.

I apologize if this sounds basic, just making sure its not something simple for you on the IP front.
If you computer is set to get an IP address automatically the IP address of the computer can change when you reboot. So the 192.168.1.X will be different for each person. I don't know your operating system so you'll need to look up how to set your IP address as static.
In windows you'll go into your network connection and configure the TCP/IP v4 protocol and set it to use this IP address with something like the following most likely: (This may be different depending on your configuration)
IP address: 192.168.1.X ---pick a number between 2-254
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 --- Says that the block of IP's your are working in is only 192.168.1.xxx
Gateway: 192.168.1.1 --- might be different based on your network router and stuff (192.168.0.1 is also common if so change the IP to 192.168.0.X instead)
DNS servers:
Google's generic ones: 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4
As far as the wrong protocol...I see some vague references to that type of messages around, but nothing specific.
Can you take SS of one of the failing clients and post it so we can see exactly what it's doing?
I know I sound like a broken record, but seriously...if we don't have SPECIFIC information about your problem its incredibly difficult to troubleshoot and solve. The more information you provide the better.
Also idling isn't against the rules or going to get you in trouble so there is nothing to hide.
In general what you've tried in the past can give the person helping you some ideas of things you tried, but it does nothing to help them understand your problem or your environment. If it seems like people tell you to do things you've already done its not because they think you're stupid, it's because they want to be thorough. Having worked in support for almost 20 years now I can't tell you the number of times I made big assumptions about what I've checked or what I can eliminate because of tests only to realize hours and hours later that if I would have just did something simple it would have been solved, but that assumption made it impossible to see the real problem.
We'll need to have have more information than this. What errors are you getting specifically?
The error is the one described above the post you commented on - I couldn't get more than 16 accounts to load. Now I added "-nohltv" to the launch settings and I can happily idle with exactly 26 accounts. Much better, no!? :) All I need is to reach 32 and I will be happy. I am running 26 accounts with slight help from cleanmem once or twice along the way. Everything works fine (after Thursday's peak) and I get my drops flawlessly even when I force cleanmem which leaves me with 6 GB more to go (I use 12 GB with I7 920 and evga x56). I admit, HDD activity is crazy but, well, we signed up for this.

Thx! this works for me, I change the LAN IP to the previous one and now I dont have the problem, after 25 accounts I get and error message "could not allocate IP port" but I fix this changing the port on my launch settings.
The problem isn't with TF2Idle. The problem is with Sandboxie + TF2.
So the screenshot that I was looking for is the DOS TF2 box that is showing the errors you are getting. Or if its a pop-up window that has the actual error on it.
I need exact verbatim what the messages to fully understand what might be the cause. "Wrong Protocol" or "Cannot connect to server" is the error message itself, but I need to the context of everything that led up to that to determine where it failed. Think of it like someone saying they had a heart attack and asking a doctor how to fix it. The heart attack is the error...what led up to that is the daily fast food eating, the lack of exercise, ect ect ect
Example:

Yes, I know you meant the log and I explained what errors I get and what the popups says, but still here it is again. The UDP "unable to bind socket" I get all the time, I guess it stucks trying to execute the next command.
Ahh if it were only that simple. I exit gracefully every time I can and its about 50/50 if I have to validate next time. Which as I said is strange because I've even attempted to backup and restore the files when everything seemed to when it was working just fine.
I'd stop the validating. Copy the entire Steam/TF2 files that I backed up from when it was closed and opening properly, it would still be asking to validate. This is such a typical message around everywhere. No one seems to have any interest in getting to bottom of solving it because any who's not having the problem dismisses it as nothing and those that do can't figure out why its happening.
It's always you're closing it wrong or some other ID10T error, which I assure its not. If I crash my system or terminate sandbox it will validate EVERY time. If I gracefully close my steams its probably 50/50 if they will validate next time.
[editline]2nd February 2013[/editline]
Why be such an ass when this question ISN'T addressed in the guide and I've been contradicted when I've suggested that the "supposed" solutions provided aren't the solution.
On all the other clients you want to connect to that you would do something like this:
+exec idle.cfg -textmode -nosound -low -novid -nopreload -nojoy -sw +sv_lan 1 -width 640 -height 480 +map itemtest +connect 192.168.1.10:27100 +clientport 29002
I also add a unique +clientport on each client because otherwise I've gotten various port errors after about 15 clients or so.
Add an unique and individual +clientport to each of your idle accounts and you won't get the port conflicts.
Hello, can I ask for a little help? I successfully connected more than 1 client to one server alt. Everything went fine and there were no port errors.
Now, the trouble is the client accounts are booted for inactivity (AFK) after awhile, while the server obviously is still connected.
I may have missed some configuration to prevent afk kicking. Anybody can help? Thanks before :)

Got an error message (above) while trying the search function here in the forums, so guess no search for me
. Anyways, been really liking the program, it was user friendly indeed. But for some reason all my settings have disappeared over night. When I opened TF2Idle today, I was greeted with a blank window. Even the Steam and Sandboxie paths had resetted to the originals in the program settings. I only have 8 idle accounts so it's not that bad to do it again, but I was wondering if anyone else has exprerienced this and if someone knew how to avoid this. Thanks!
Gotta love this program.

Have you gone above 26? I still can't.. My settings are pretty much the same with a few changes.
Nope, I idle everyday in batches of 25. The screenshot above shows 21 since I have 46 premium accounts, not 50. I could probably go up to 30~32 as far as my PC is concerned.
What error(s) do you get when you try to go above 26? By any chance, do you get an error like "Could not allocate specific port" or something of that sort?

Yeah, I looked that up last week and the -nohltv parameter did the trick for me. But before I tried it, I gathered some more information and tried connecting to a different port. It worked well for my last 5 accounts. Use the "+connect IP (not IP:port) -port 27076" parameters for the accounts that give you errors. Try it with and without -nohltv. I don't really have an explanation for this. I was just experimenting and it worked. Let me know if it works for you or not.

I'm no expert, but it looks like your +connect parameter specifies port 29015 but the server uses 27038. Try changing it?

Dunno, thought I launched on 29015, these are my settings
Server

If already set the port on "+connect 192.168.1.101:29015" I dont need to add the "-port 27016" line?

I had the same problem but only because I copied the game files from my main account to the TF2Idle folder. Deleted all gcf files and ran one of the accounts from tf2idle (letting the game download the missing files). After that I had no problems with validating, even if I force close all steam .exe's

Well Im a noob in this, but for me its better to make a host and join it with the other accounts, you will not get disconnected unless there is update queded.
Has anybody figured out how to get autocrafting programs working?
I'd like to forget about my TF2Idle problems for a second and I hope what I want to ask/say fits this topic since all of us are trying to make accounts premium asap.
My question is.. Do Valve people ban/block payments made from one source to multiple accounts? I read somewhere around page 18 of this topic that Visa Prepaid gets blocked after 2nd account being paid with it. I'd like to know if normal Visa/Master cards are blocked if I use them to pay for more than a few accounts. It does sound a bit strange that Valve will block payments! They do not forbid multiple accounts, why forbid payments to those accounts??
PS.. I can try an help anyone who is just starting with idling TF2. I ain't no expert but I can probably make your path smoother and less neurotic. Check my profile for my skype name and contact me there if you need any specific personal help asap (in case I'm online). I'll try to answer when I can.
Is there a special config/setting when using cleanmem and idle? I start use it in my PC but after a few minutes the idle accs are disconnected from server.
Edit:

Meh, I guess cleanmem is just fake, hl2.exe had less than 15 MB per acc. and around 100 MB for the server, but in the performance monitor the RAM is the same, my thoughts are that cleanmem is finishing some useful process to keep the acc connected to the server
