Steel. And though I love plr_ maps*, they need the timer that they added on nightfall because the long stalemates. *Except hightower. The ride that never ends.
Has anyone here played cp_zinkenite?
http://www.khuntza.net/OzfortressMirroredMaps.html
whoa
whoa, plr_whalerace was amazing. shame it was never finished nor updated.
CTF_convoy (ver. 1)
ver. 1? All I know of is the fug convoy server. Iunno what version that is though

Less a set of maps and more a gamemode in general, apart from faffing about in randomizer, i don't think i've played arena mode since 2010, what happened? i actually forgot that Lumberyard exists, and it was a beautiful map. And as for maps in general, is it just me, or has the james bond villian theme sort of eroding in TF2? I remember in years gone by looking at the missile racks in grainary and really getting this oppressive feeling from them, like you're helping horrible people do horrible things and thinking it really made the TF2 universe that much fuller. Seems to me as of late that all the ray guns, superweapons, secret bunkers and such have sort of disappeared, replaced with bit holes in the ground and octopus hats. Either that or it's all still there, and just dilluted by literally giving a face to the administrator, as well as RED and BLU. iunno, just thinking aloud Also there's a great attack/defense map which i forget the name of that runs on Nom occasionally. Big castle theme, really well done, big mix of CP_steel, gravilpit and degroot keep, with the last bit of the map being a gigantic rocket/device thing in electrified stuff with the upper levels of the castle torn out to make space. Beautifully done
http://www.khuntza.net/OzfortressMirroredMaps.html
PL_hsurdlog made my head hurt when it popped up on a custom maps server, that sounds brilliantly painful
nah, the map themes have been getting worse imo. Doomsday is awful for it, because the comic humor just doesn't jive with the actual game, but they mixed them anyway. The MVM maps are better but the over the top humor is still there supplanting the subtle dark humor of the old maps.
Spytech and missile stockpiles are probably less common because they don't affect gameplay. Even though the exploding deathpits of payload and MvM aren't as interestingly symbolic, they still hint at the power and finality of areas you're trying to control by killing everyone dramatically. I actually think Doomsday and Stoneyridge do better than MvM at tying back to the serious-unchecked-weaponization theme while still having a noticeable presence during the game. I don't think they succeeded, but I hope such efforts continue.
I think comic humor works in TF2, i mean the classes are all based around being funny, they'd be dull but interestingly designed if it weren't for them being a bunch of wisecracking sociopaths joyfully smaching each other with rocket launchers and broken bottles. I think maybe it should be looked at as each map should be looked at as telling a story. Best example being Hydro. Red is trying to take over a massive power complex, letting you see every part of it. The red base is squirriled away underneath a false floor, and BLU's base being well built, with signs and all, sort of breaking the 'red defends and blue attacks' bit, although not as strong as to break game expectations. It gives the map a sense of weight, like you're actually doing something, rather than just being paid to murder each other for no particular reason. My biggest gripe with payload and MVM is that the thing you're/the bots are blowing up is just a big hole in the ground, most glaringly on pipeline, both teams are racing to blow up the exact same beige ledge for no discernable reason whatsoever. Bugs me way more than it should. And that map i forgot the name of is CP_Gothic, brilliant map to play, brilliant map to look at
I didn't mean comic humor as in like comedy I mean the style of humor present in the comics. I mean compare this (over the top, overbearing, in your face) [t]http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/1/1d/Noticeboard_in_BLU_Secret_Room.jpg[/t] to this (little subtle comical details related to the game's secret base theme and how terrible they are at hiding them) [t]http://dic.academic.ru/pictures/wiki/files/67/Cow2fort.jpg[/t] and the intrinsic humor of the bases being right next to each other.
5-cp maps. I enjoy these maps because the pace of the game usually go pretty fast, which I like.
Am I the only one who dislikes steel? I always get lost if im defending :v:
Am I the only one who dislikes steel? I always get lost if im defending :v:
Steel works just like any other map--you should spend some time with it alone before you go out and play. If you do that, you should have no problem getting the basic gist of the layout. (duel_duel_2)
I just wish I could find servers that didn't have the same 5 maps that people always play. I'll never play all the maps
Rather than maps themselves, there are concepts that some maps have played about with, and should be implemented into more maps, or, hell, using some gamemodes a bit more. For example, Steel's "Go straight to the winning cap with difficulty, or just attack the other 4 to make it easier" concept should be played around with more, and Gravelpit's "A and B are needed for you to get C" thing which Degrootkeep played with, too. And more doomsday and payload race. And more urban themed maps like kong king.
tc_hydro, cp_degrootkeep, and cp_fastlane
Literally anything that's not 2Fort, Dustbowl, Hightower, or Turbine.
Literally anything that's not 2Fort, Dustbowl, Hightower, or Turbine.
Goldrush and Freight as well. I see those two played a lot.
Goldrush and Freight as well. I see those two played a lot.
huh?? You sure about that?
huh?? You sure about that?
Yeah, I see servers running it pretty often. Dunno why, I hate the map myself. Something about it seems to always put me on fairly horrible teams that usually end up with us getting crushed badly.
I wish I had the chance to play Koth_harvest_final more oftenly.
plr_pipeline koth_harvest/koth_harvest_event ctf_doublecross ad_hunted cp_lushbowl cp_warmfront ctf_theskatingrink ctf_facing_worlds pl_metropolis_b5 It's been a while since I've seen a server running any of these, and the ones that do, are either empty or full of bots.

lord i fucking hate steel On topic, I rather prefer Yukon or Fastlane. Five CP maps are always fun because of the back and forth, alongside everything else. I always found myself to enjoy them. Granary and Badlands are two of my favorite maps due to this. Also, Ctf_Turbine.

Want to switch TF2 searchs? :v: All the koth_harvest you could ever want. [sp]please im so sick of koth_harvest ill suck your dick[/sp]
Ctf_vector
I really like these CTF+A/D mode maps. they make for some really interesting games. While I've never played on Vector, there's another map like this that I've played on quite a few times. HAARP is one of the ones I've enjoyed quite a bit. I'd like it if cp_process was made an official map. It's wonderfully made, but I've only played it once or twice in lobbies and felt stupid for not knowing my way around it at all and getting flanked a few times.
yeah, ctf_haarp is a boss map, have a look at Spud's other finished map ctf_landfall (stock CTF)
