Racial stereotyping - even if it's neutral or even positive - is by definition racism. I'm pretty sure a lot of intelligent people have said intelligent things about why racial stereotypes (regardless of type) solidify cultural segregation, but I don't know anything about that so I won't argue that point. Instead, I'd like to point out that 'blacks love chicken' jokes just aren't funny. Not in a 'that's offensive so we can't laugh at it sense', they just lack any semblance of comedic value.
