I can tell them that till I'm blue in the face but I don't think they'll listen to me anymore than anyone else. The sword doesn't have a crit swing sound either so I don't think that's up to me.
Yuh the whole earbuds thing really annoyed me because Valve keeps advising people to put items in game that match with the 50's yet items they put in don't, I guess it's more to help people so they don't go insane and make sci-fi items.
Then again there weren't aluminum baseball bats in the 50's, the first aluminum baseball bat was made in the 1970's.

It's not a radical change and I still need to move a few things around, as well as make the text readable, but it's getting there. Centering the small buttons took way longer than it should have.

It's annoying but it does work. You have to convert them to bmp, then put them in the same directory structure specified in the smd, using the smd's folder as the root "materials" folder. For all decompiled Valve models, this means you have to create a "models" subdirectory and whatever else to recreate the material path. For custom models you can usually just put the bmp in the same directory.

You'd be surprised what they sometimes decide to listen to. I told them in an email that the loading screen tips should have lowercase names for default weapons and uppercase names for unlockable weapons and that they should fix a grammar error in one of the original ages-old tips. Lo and behold, the very next day they did it in an update.
The key with Valve is "the less work we have to do, the more likely we'll use it". If you made the sound file yourself and included it with your submission, they'll have little reason not to use it. And at least even if they end up not using it the option will have been there for them in the first place. They might not even realize that there's no crit swing sound with all the other shit they're currently working on.

Although, logically speaking that Scout's bat would be Aluminum, metal baseball bats in general, were made in the 1920's, but were not used in official leagues until the 1970's, so they technically did exist prior to the games timeline :P
Don't know why there's so many disagree's to NeoDement I think it looks bad too, the text doesn't fit with the style you're going with, it's far too large and the box seems weirdly positioned.
Best advise is to move the Ubercharge box down so it's aligned with the health box and capture boxes. Also make the text inside the box much more smaller and perhaps choose a lighter color for the text.
Also couple more things, move the demo's Head and scout's ball/drink box so it's in alignment with his ammo box (at the moment it's slightly higher and move the 'stickies placed' box so it lines up with the edge of the demo's head count box.

I can have a look, but I doubt it'd look much better, and it'd look pretty fubar on non-widescreen, lowres displays. (I really need to adjust horizonal position values to look better on non-widescreen displays, but I don't know how many people play TF2 on those...)
Kins I mean raise the Health & Ammo upwards as in closer to the crosshair. Always find it easier to look at stuff when they're near my crosshair.

You could just rename the earbuds to be Ivory Earplugs. That's what I thought Valve would do when I was wondering if they'd actually put in earbuds.

Sorry for late reply, but here is what I think:
Use the first one, but add details to make it battle hardened/worn out, for example:
-scratches/dents
-tape (slight protection/to hold the gun together)
-missing pieces (screws/bolts that are missing and leave holes, -for example)
-improvised fixes
-welded/bolted metal plates to the gun to protect the broken parts
-etc. :v:
because the broken stock would just look painful to wear, and a bit weird.
The broken barrel might work, but preferably broken in a different way other than "omg i shot so hard my barrel exploded lolz"

I'm pretty sure it's blurry because it's in the Model Viewer, I bet the ingame version of it is sharp.
