The only offer I've gotten so far is a smoking HWNN, and I have no idea if that's any good because I haven't played this game for quite awhile until recently. Any help is really appreciated.

This may not be the place to ask, but how do you tell if an item was potentially duped?

You can check with TF2B it shows the item ID's of the hat as it changes over time. If you notice a hat has the same ID twice then it is possibly duped.
