IMO it should have only one of those attributes. Otherwise it'd just be a straight downgrade.

To shield. I also like the tape. Keep it up.
Tape needs tear on the ends. As it is, it looks like a belt.
Also, the shield reduces the distinctiveness of the sillohette. And having a shield there doesn't even make a lot of sense, as it wouldn't be in front of the heavy holding it.
