One is a common tool item, some people buy it, some people trade for it. Not everyone would hate the change, not everyone would like it. It's not really a nerf to it, it's a makeover.
No it's not a nerf, but since the point being discussed was "it's bad to change something people already paid for" it's relevant. You can't really apply the words nerf or upgrade to cosmetic items anyway, and since you're paying for a certain look, having that changed majorly will cause people to feel cheated. They paid for a certain look, not for that makeover you're talking about.
The other one is a weapon that is hard to obtain from drops, therefor a lot of people buy it. Not many people at all liked the change to it, and the only real "exploitable" part about it was that its harmless projectiles could scare enemies which could in rare situations be useful as a distraction. It got a straight nerf.
Incorrect, you could use it to rocketjump around the map without any health penalty, then use the soldier's other two weapons to do damage. Maybe for rocketjumper it wasn't that exploitable since the shotgun + equalizer is the best combo you can have which still isn't really threatening, but the stickyjumper without a penalty would've been batshit insane, demos using 3 stickies per jump to jump clean across maps, then using their nadelauncher (with no selfdamage so also usable in closerange) to kill people.
I think changing a cosmetic item is a lot drastic change than changing the stats of a weapon.
Once again I have to disagree. Valve intended the -jumper weapons as test weapons; purely for the sake of learning the techniques of jumping without dying so often. This means (imho) that a combat-nerf is not a bad thing to apply to them. It makes them far less exploitable and doesn't affect the way they were supposed to be used.
the hair on the cadavers cranium, make it paintable :D hey, he asked if hi missed any hats, if you can paint the hound dog hair why not the cadaver hair?
-Never mind, this isn't exactly constructive.-
Did Daimao ever send in that Paintable Alien swarm thing? That looked really good, I might actually wear it if it is painted
You win, since I'm in all honesty too tired to try and counter that entire post. I will however say, why the fuck did Valve nerf the Rocket Jumper and Sticky Jumper but not the set bonuses without downsides, if the customers paying for them getting mad doesn't matter at all?
You are still saying that "Valve does this all the time, why should I care?" We have an opportunity to actually intervene with such a change, but you choose not to because it doesn't directly affect you and you are pissy because your Rocket Jumper was nerfed.
I've never owned a Rocket Jumper. If I wanted to fight for something that effected me, I would fight for Valve to bring back my old black Brigade Helmet before they fucked it over. I'm saying yes, Valve does this all the time. Why can't we apply a change that many people would like but a couple of people would hate, when Valve have made the same thing but worse A LOT more often.
why the fuck did Valve nerf the Rocket Jumper and Sticky Jumper but not the set bonuses without downsides
I'm assuming because those sets are so bad that using them in itself is a downside.
Also I just want to note that I am against the argument "but some people won't like the change" by itself, but since Simski brought up the rocketjumper, I just wanted to point out that making a testing weapon less useful in actual combat is less bad than completely changing the look of a cosmetic item imho. Full paintability is actually one of the few things I liked about the stovepipe.
I'm assuming because those sets are so bad that using them in itself is a downside.
Milkman doesn't seem too bad to me.
Pfft, more people voted for the brim, so I think he should go for the brim. It's no longer a matter of people who own it being mad, currently we're just arguing about our personal opinions on the change.
I'm assuming because those sets are so bad that using them in itself is a downside.
Yeah, I've never seen anybody use the tankbuster pack properly. You have three rockets, no shotgun, and a negligible resistance to sentry damage. The gas jockey's gear I don't really see anywhere. Like I don't think I've ever fought one. Milkman scout is bullshit when used correctly, but to be honest every scout is bullshit when used correctly. Pretty much the fish is only in the set because if it weren't you'd be able to use the sandman with a 10hp bonus. In addition, the shortstop is beat out by the scattergun in short range, and has more shots. Saharan Spy is great fun, but the downsides are apparent if you are actually playing spy. I think I forgot one. Ah yes, I have yet to see a croc-o-style sniper do well. That's all I'll say on that matter.

Make the set bonuses fair, then buff the packs as a whole.

Because it was fully painted. I agree that the brim-only version looks better, but then no one will notice my hat. It will be like an unpainted Ghastlier Gibus. Yay!
Alright, go with the full painted one. The artstyle died aeons ago either way.
I feel really sorry for the people who cant see a difference from the gibus to the stovepipe. Originally the dint and the big rip in the top was pretty dam noticeable but now it has a big knock of silver buckle on the side you'd have to be rather blind not to see it.

The artstyle died aeons ago either way.
i love it when people bring up the art style, i don't see how it has anything to do with how much of hat is colored

I know it's an indicator of the set and a way to choose whether to use it or not and all but they shouldn't be so goddamn difficult to get.
Since Daimao's now in Valve's pocket, why not attempt bringing up the soon-to-be fix pack?
Oh, so you want to be a Sniper target?
So many people do. Unusuals are a great head-hilighter.
oh also personally I'd go for the hat being colored and the band not painted.
Oh, so you want to be a Sniper target?
I wouldn't wear a hat at all if this was really a problem. Snipers can see you well enough with or without hats, apart from half-blind ones - and those won't hit you even if they saw you.

Either that or I am critically misreading the one I am quoting. Or both.
can we get back to mods now? or am i being very rainbow here?
About the Max's Severed head being paintable. I always thought, that earbuds can't be paintable because of Apple copyrights(it wouldn't be Apple anymore if they would be black would it?). But now, that Max's hat will be paintable, why not do the same with earbuds? Surely there isn't that much work to make them paintable, it's just a solid color, if i'm correct.
