Do you assume players with hats = expert of that class

All the people hating on gibus wearers makes me sad. I wear the gibus on a couple classes, either plain or skinned into something else, because it's all I have besides a halo and cambeard. What's wrong with that? It looks good on some classes.
I've been playing since '08, for the people that assume gibus wearers are new players.
I crafted the Toque last night, and am a reasonably good Heavy player. But I do no automatically assume that someone is good at playing a class just because of their hat. Sort of the same way I don't think of Peasants (Gibus, bronze medal) as bad players because one of my friends is one and he can kick my ass as any class. I see hats as cosmetic items. Highly desirable cosmetic items, but with no function whatsoever.
The Saigns` arena server (and the others) usually only have poor and irish players with the gibus(urk,it reeks of poor).sometimes i see this heavy with the Hound Dog,and he`s slightly better(actually survivrs long enough to make a difference, responds to voice commands etc..) but my friend and i seem like the only team players with unique (when heavies that is).I got a Tough guy`s toque and the other`s got a ushanka.together we win,but the occasional W+M1.so yeah, either someone with a powerful hat is good,or friendlies.friendlies with hats is just domination comin` right up!
Saigns servers are full of bots, of course they're bad at arena

It's not the fact it is a bad hat, it's the fact it is so common and is still used by a lot of people today.
I only have a Tricorne and that didn't make me alot better than demo. I play it slightly more but that hat is also modified with NeoDement's Laddy's Locks cause they are awesome. Every other class has a skinned gibus so I have my favourite hats on them.
Ever since I got the Sergeant's Drill Hat, I feel like a pro.

Yeah it looks awesome on the Heavy and Scout.

I liked it on the pyro mostly
Actually, I kinda think that hats can equal skill in SOME cases.
Any regular TF2 player has a class they are skilled in, and generaly, you would want a hat for that class first. So people who work hard enough to get the 4 refined+token are probablly decent at that class.
I have no idea if what I just said makes any sense, great first post, eh?
I've got the same thing, OP. I truly know that hat =/= skill, but if I see someone with a non all-class hat my first thought is "Damn, he must be pretty good." I know it's all BS, but I just can't help it. I pay more attention to those players to see how good they are, too. I've learned some neat stuff watching players who I noticed had hats. Similarly, though, I've learned neat stuff from people who've never had anything except the Gibus.

Makes perfect sense, it's what I both did and am doing. I crafted my Medic hat - got the mirror I wanted - because I'm a pretty good Medic, and so I play him often. Next I'm going for Pyro and then Sniper, because I'm a pretty alright Pyro and he's my de-facto choice for base patrolling, and I'm good with the Huntsman and enjoy playing Sniper.
Of course, it would help if my framerate wasn't crap even in DX 8.1. I would probably have enough drops to craft both of those and start work on my Engineer hat.
I am the worlds worst demo, a average soldier and pyro. But my avatar showing my 3 hats must mean that I am godly.
I got the heavys officer hat thing. And I'm alright at heavy.
The tyrant's helm is the most overrated hat in the game and it looks like shit compared to the kabuto or the pot, imo
Just sayin'
Sounds like you are mad because you don't have one, also you're jealous because you have 2 shit hats and you seem to be very optimistic about flaunting a shitty football helmet everywhere.
I have a Tyrants Helm... it seemed like a shitty overrated dumbass hat... well, before I got one, that is. Now I think it's awesome and I'm compelled to play the soldier more often
This is fucking true. I've never healed or put out someone without a hat before, and is it a coincidence that the players with the hats have better scores??? I think not.
Hats make you more skilled.

I guess it's true
Stalkr
I'm very good at sniper and crafted a Sola Topi last Sunday.
I miss it :(
Somewhat.
what no that's dumb
I generaly feel the same way about those players.

Agreed, i use the gibus on some classes, it looks really good on the demoman, fine on the pyro and very funny on a spy wearing the beard. The only hat i consider complete trash is the halo, it doesn't fit the game at all. It's a round, bright and plain piece of shit.
Yeah man, hats are scary. Reeeeal intimidatin'
Any soldier with the Killer's Kabuto frightens me

You think that frightens you, you should see me jumping out with my sparkly one
Sometimes. It makes them look like a powered-up version of that class, like how in other games, the super version of a certain enemy has an extra thing to tell you he's more powerful.
i got a hat for the class i play the least.
It seemed that a while ago I got hats depending on who I'd played the most.
It started with me playing Pyro a lot. I got the beanie.
Then, I went back to medic, and found the Pickelhaube.
Then came the halocaust, and I lost both of them.
I began to play scout, and the day after, I found the batter's helmet.
the day after that, I found another pickelhaube.
About a week later, after playing a lot of the demoman, I found the Glengarry.
Played as Medic. Tyrolean.
*No hats for a year*
Finally built up 3 refined, and crafted a brainslug, just after I'd started playing pyro again.
Yes, and if I see the gibus or halo it's the opposite.
As the Sniper once said, "Skill always beats luck". They're merely cosmetic things, and the only thing they say about you is how lucky you are or whatnot.

hat fight!
My only experience is that usually Soldiers with hats are more skilled (and I don't believe its because of wearing a hat). With Heavies it's from time to time.
