The golden wrench may be a monkey island purchase bonus.

No please. The community including me, will be angry because I know Monkey Island is a good game but I don't want to buy it only to get a weapon.

You'll also get two awesome games if you preorder, which you might be interested in some time later. I got the orange box just for Portal, and I got interested in Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2 later on.

There are 7 people on my list who own sam and max season 3. Of them, only one has played through it. The other two touched the first episode and left midway in.
Adventure games and fps gamers do not go hand in hand, even if they are about mindnumbingly well timed clicking and specific solutions to large problems. Except one is about fast paced tactics, and the other is about insane logic.
I think valve does not make "weapons" in a limited amount unless it's just a reskin with a glorious golden death.
I don't remember any golden wrenches in the MI series, there was one specific monkey wrench there though. :v:
That would be a pretty cool limited weapon actually.
On one hand I'd probably get it since I love monkey island
On the other the amount of whining that would happen, oh god the whining.
As everyone has been mentioning, if there was going to be an Monkey Island item, it would be one that would be representative of Monkey Island and a golden wrench is not.
on an unrelated note, I love the original monkey island games, but does anyone else think that the remakes are little hit and miss? Maybe I am too nostalgic about the old school pixel art in the originals, but I mean 20 years later a remake of an old computer game should look awesome - not sometimes better and sometimes worse.
I will never EVER buy Monkey Island just for another exclusive item....

There's only 1 released remake thus far.

The remake's fucking bullshit, in the forest they haven't even painted over it all. Some of the old scaled up pixels show right through. It's pathetic.

You can always use the option to switch to classic mode.
^ That. The remakes got some weird ass style to it. Anyone know if it'll use the trailers graphics or is it that stiff cardboard cutout Guybrush?
The trailers Guybrush was a fucking beast. Like, holy shit amazing.

What is Monkey Island?
I really hope they don't do those buy games get cosmetic items again. It only makes the forum rage.
What is Monkey Island?
I suddenly feel like crying.
In a nutshell, Monkey Island was what pioneered point and click adventure games, you play as some shmuck named Guybrush Threepwood who has one dream, and that's to be a pirate. He blunders about several islands, falls in love with the Mayor of a island, and does battle with pirate ghost, pirate demons, pirate zombies, pirate humans.
All of his adventures are -insanely- silly and there's usually no action, and resorts on a battle of wits. Insult sword fighting, and rhyming action on the high sea's. It's very creative and very loved.
It's made by (at least the older games) the same guys who made Sam and Max: Hit the Road, Day of the Tentacle, and Full Throttle.
In fact, let me tell you about a little gem they made called "LOOM"
It's pretty much the latest masterpiece of fantasy storytelling from Lucasfilm's™ Brian Moriarty™? Why it's an extraordinary adventure with an interface on magic... stunning, high-resolution, 3D landscapes... sophisticated score and musical effects. Not to mention the detailed animation and special effects, elegant point 'n' click control of characters, objects, and magic spells. Beat the rush! Go out and buy Loom™ today!
Awwww fuck. I wanted L4D2 and Sam and Max, for both the games and the items, but now here is a game I don't want with an exclusive item. Guess I'm going to miss out.

Wow, that actually looks like a funny, decent game, not as appealing as Sam and Max, but worth a mention.
The golden wrench only adds one thing, gives metal to the engi when you turn them gold because you can pick them up.

Despite the slapstick comedy shown in it, it's got some real sophisticated humor as well. If you're going to get a Monkey Island game, 2 is certainly one of the better choices. It's pretty amazing

And as I said previously, it won't be for preordering MI2.

Sorry, but on some topics I just get carried away

Myself, my best friend, and 1 other person have all of the Sam and Max games. Three people. But somehow 10 people on my friends list have Sam and Max season 3. Those 7 other people bought the game for the items. I say to them, what a waste of 35 dollars, you retards.
As for me, I love the Sam and Max games. I didn't get to season 3 yet, I'm about halfway through the 2nd season, but I still recommend people to play it. It is a really funny, clever, and all around awesome game.
No no no no no no NO!
I'm sick of all of these limited weapons you can get by preordering some game! What's next? If you preorder Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2 (if it ever goes on Steam) you get a lightsaber?
I'll accept that a few limited items is okay, but this is getting out of control. The first Engi unlock we see is a limited piece of crap that you can only get from ordering a game? Bull.
I don't want to get Monkey Island. I really don't. I really want that Golden Wrench. But I'm not shoveling out just to get it.
I doubt Valve would do this. I mean, all items that you could get by buying a game so far were hats or just costum models. I doubt Valve would EVER give you an item with new abilities which you can only get by buying a game.

Quick note: Some people would've got the other episodes from Telltale as opposed to steam.

Maybe it won't have new abilities?
Maybe it won't have new abilities?
Because turning people to gold isn't a new ability.
Because turning people to gold isn't a new ability.
You could consider it a new ability but honestly it has no effect on gameplay, much like the Sam and Max items.
You could consider it a new ability but honestly it has no effect on gameplay, much like the Sam and Max items.
I think it's enough to be considered a new ability. Valve are unlikely to do the S&M stuff again.
I wouldn't pay a single cent for a TF2 weapon.
You can always use the option to switch to classic mode.
But, what if you want classic mode, but with speech?
Annoyingly, in the first Monkey Island remake, speech gets switched off as soon as you toggle into classic mode, grr :(
