Major Update Speculation v19: Official Sponsor of the Winky Smiley

All I ask is for Valve to fix the items that their creators have submitted to them or the Workshop. Let's fix what we have before we add new content.
A guy just posted these on [sp]/v/[/sp]

(Dunno why they're still upside down, I even rotated them in paint)
They look like pieces of storyboard from the 15 minute movie.
Anyway, given the source, I think you shouldn't take these for real.
EDIT: fixed
That dude in the left square looks like an Engineer... sort of.

So it's true?

I'm kinda torn. On the one hand, I do hope this is evidence of the new movie, but "The End and the Beginning" could mean this'd be the last TF2 film, and I really don't want that to be the case.
Bet you it explains respawn.
"The End and the Beginning" could mean this'd be the last TF2 film
If you look at it carefully, it says "and the Beginning" too.
Maybe they'll "restart" the game. Vanilla, here we come.

Vanilla, hahahaha. What a joke.
Vanilla, hahahaha. What a joke.
Yeah, it's horrible. It's almost sad how people don't realize this. Everyone looks identical, there's no variation in weaponry leading to everyone acting the same... it'd be one homogenized lump of boring.
No matter what anyone thinks about pink sports jackets or too-detailed sniper rifles, they're great additions.
Vanilla, hahahaha. What a joke.
I just wish you'd close all Facepunch, Steam, and TF2-related accounts you own.

I wouldn't say "Vanilla", but maybe they will start heavily focusing on fixes (bug fixes, balance fixes, etc.), starting with the first Major Update that needs fixing on items/maps/gamemodes/etc (so it's unlikely to be any major updates before the WAR! Update).

they've been focusing on fixes for the last few months. I mean, you know they're doing a good job when I of all people are bored of bug fixes and would like to see some content.
I think the next major update will be like Pyromania and have lots of bug fixes and balancing
What if it's about the broken stuff in TF2 becoming sentient and trying to destroy the game, and the team has to work together to fix everything for a new "beginning"?
Beware the Loch-n-Loch Demoman. :v:

I wonder if a small med kit on one corner and a small metal box on the other corner on either side of the bridge would help.
I think it would certainly help the "omg I'm on fire! Jump in the water!" problem that occurs now

I always feel a bit sorry for the janitor when someone complains that there aren't any fixes being made.

How rude.
Exor's not bad. He has incredible (unrealistic) expectations for the game and updates, but he always stays civil and on topic and this thread needs contrary opinions besides "OMG VALVE IS AWESOOOMMME" sometimes.
And he's right, Vanilla is god awful boring these days. When the item server is down I just quit. It's not really fun, and not knowing individual players based on hats, and not having any variety of people makes the whole thing get stale fairly fast. It's only from every match being an entirely different group of cosmetics and weapons that TF2 really shines.
How rude.
These threads aren't long, please don't waste posts.
Anyway, back on topic, a lot of old maps would certainly benefit from new health/ammo kit layouts. I'd like to see a small health kit added to the roof of the shack in front of C on Gravel Pit particularly.

I love when the item server goes down. I find it really fun. Whether you find it boring or not, doesn't mean you have to take a big shit on it.
I'm not gonna get into whether the game has gotten better or worse because of all of the item additions. I'm not getting in to that because there's no point in arguing it, it's pretty much completely true. It's not fair to compare them, they're two different games.
It's just like, you don't degrade old people for being old. They were artists once. That video is like, my bible. I watch it daily. There's no need to completely disrespect what was unarguably a better art direction.

I think his disgruntled take on Valve's practices is kinda refreshing, actually. It's nice to see someone that's willing to complain when things aren't satisfactory, especially in an environment full of people that would dumb you to kingdom come if you dare speak against gaben's hallowed name.
The state of TF2 in terms of Valve's interaction with the community and content updates sucks a big ol' fat one right now. I realize they're working hard on Steampipe and bugfixes right now, and that's radical, but I wish that they'd at least dedicate a bit more time to interacting with the community. Status updates, teases that aren't ambiguous secret magazine pages about nutmeg sex, just something to keep us engaged. They really aren't doing that at all though. The last time I can remember Valve even somewhat interacting with the community is when they denied Skullgirls their promo item, told the dudes with the neat headphone DJ game to go away, and then released Reddit promos.
It's not exactly a good time right now.

I'm loving how a couple of you are just passively shooting out that you assume I'm just kissing Valve's ass without being outright about it so you can pin any arguments I attempt as arguments I'm starting.
I love the work Valve has done, but my dedication is based solely on the classic art direction.
You're really gonna sit there and say I'm just kissing Valve's ass all the time? I complain often. I email Valve every few days with things I'd like to see fixed, new weapons I'd like to see. I used to do hats too, but I've been hanging on to those since I've started learning to model.
As for the Headphones thing, it's Valve's game. They're a great item, I'd love seeing them added, but if Valve has reasons for not wanting them then that's just how it is. You need to decide what you're complaining about instead of simply complaining about what you happen to be able to openly argue. Do they add too many promos? Or not enough? Make up your mind.
Exor, you're really gonna sit there and tell me you prefer

Don't get me wrong, you're allowed to like whatever you want. It's up to you, art is subjective. But... you can't actually think the above is better looking, can you? It's a betrayal to the original art direction. A fun, enjoyable betrayal. But it's far from the same and it's certainly enough to drive me back on Xbox once in a long awhile and savor those days when the item server goes down.
Expecting Valve to interact with TF2's splintered oddball community these days is insane. Plus their focus is DOTA2, I wouldn't be surprised if the movie and the SteamPipe update were the last major things Valve does for TF2 before moving on to something else entirely.
What is with Valve's recent attitude to promos? Last I heard they were refusing to take anymore but then they added the Reddit garbage.

The Reddit hats were a joke.
I'm sorry you didn't get it.
Here, let me explain it for you.
They wrote on the blog that they would add Reddit items, right?
See, then they mentioned the Jarate fiasco. That upset some people at first, it was called "too childish" and an "obvious joke". This was back when the game still somewhat resembled the original art direction, you see.
Still with me?
Then they followed through and added it a couple months later as an official weapon.
That was the joke. They posted in on April 1st so people would think it was fake.
See, I don't know how good you are with the concept of "references", but they "referenced" this event to mess with the community.
That was the part that was the joke.
When they actually did put the hats in the files, the community's reaction was the part of the joke that is referred to sometimes as the "punch-line". The "punch-line" is the funny part of the joke.
Read over that a few times and I'm sure you'll be able to piece it together. :)

I seem to have missed the part where I was talking to you.
But okay, I want you to have a look at my backpack. I have both the Carl set and all of the Venture Brothers items and I wear them both. I like TF2's current art direction, I like the individuality that cosmetics and different play styles bring. I like all of that stuff.
So... yes. Yes I can actually think that the above is better looking. I don't care what sort of colorful accusatory language or condescending attitude you strum up.
And besides, literally nobody was talking about the art style right now. We were talking about how Valve's done jack of all shits other than outsourced promo items since January and how that kinda sucks.

see what you're doing right here friend
this is called "being a gigantic douchebag"
do you know why "douchebag" has a negative connotation
because people don't like douchebags and decided to dub them something disgusting to sum up their feelings towards them
tl;dr get the bee outta your bonnet sister

Hee hee no one ever said storyboard art has to be perfect, but these look like doodles done by a bored 7th grader in math class.
On a related note, I hope they go all out with the voice acting. As in: record everything fresh instead of relying too much on their current library of voices. The one thing that sort of bothered me about Meet the Pyro is all of the recycled voice lines they used (the Medic's "No!", etc.). Maybe it's just because I've played the game too much and recognize the original context behind these clips, but they were really noticeable and tended to stick out like a sore thumb.
Despite it probably being impossible to schedule, I wonder how much better/worse it'd be if they went with a round-table recording of the script with all of the voice actors in one room, able to feed off each other's energy.

re-used voice lines stick out so much to us because for the most part tf2 fans spend a lot of time hearing them both in-game and in gmod and sfm videos
to hear them in something after like a minute and a half of brand new dialogue is insanely jarring
The Reddit hats were a joke.
I also think it's either a joke with no release (but then, why did they update on April 2nd instead of the 1st?) or there is some "conspiracy clues" on the hats or descriptions that would lead to an unlock code to the most silliest hat in existence.
