I thought it did 15 damage? :o
That is the current crit damage.
How good would the Short Circuit be if it worked more like a Minigun where it fired 1 ammo per x amount of time (enough so that it would go from 200 to 0 metal in the same time as it currently does) and instead of firing in bursts, It shot down projectiles in a constant stream?

holy crap ahaha
holy crap ahaha
Killing the pyro in that demo took a really long time, and six or seven full ammo boxes.
coz you shouldn't cost metal to use, damnit
Pretty sure they didn't want to create situations where a Short Circuit Engineer is capable of keeping his teammate's wrangled sentry gun from being near indestructible to projectiles, hence the steep metal cost.
Solo, the weapon would be fine with low/no cost, but when you factor Engineer teams into the equation, things get tricky.
it fires slightly slower than rockets/grenades though, which makes a difference.
sc is really good if you're used to handling the airblast
especially good stuff against stickies and crits
I also run it in MvM and people get all impressed when I just stand infront of giant-charged soldiers

Unless an enemy Soldier or Demo has a clear line of sight on the gun, they typically will not be able to shoot at their fastest rate without being riddled with sentry bullets thanks to the wrangler.
A Wrangler + Short Circuit Engineer team is pretty annoying to deal with, toss in a Rescue Ranger and it makes it even harder since you can't chip away at their health by splashing around the gun.
you're grossly exaggerating the effectiveness of the Short Circuit.
You know what could do exactly the same thing more reliably and with less metal? That SC engineer hitting the building constantly with his wrench...
Yeah, and you will run out of metal eventually or miss a shot.

Smacking a building with a wrench doesn't do jack against sticky bombs or enough concentrated spam.
The general idea to bust a sentry is to hit it all at once so the damage can't be repaired in time, which is exactly the situation where the Short Circuit would shine, assuming the Engineer has good timing.
It's not an amazing item, but it has its moments. And most, if not all, of those moments stem from working with another Engineer.
how?

Why would support give someone that?
EDIT:
Ninjad.
Why would support give someone that?
If I am understanding the pastebin correctly, all he did was go around the schema, get the item, and use a Name Tag on it. And I'm not sure about it but you can use any item.
Now we need to get that person banned for life for exploitng item schema because he has a weapon that no one else has, right?
It still works, apparently.
I'm gonna give it a shot.

The most effective way to avoid stickies as an engineer is to pack up and get out of there. The short circuit is just too unreliable, uses too much metal and fires far too slowly to be of any real use. Situations your describing would have been much better server with other items that do what the SC is supposed to do, and so much more.
as an engineer main, i find myself using the short circuit only on payload attack, since you're the cart. A good loadout that I run is Pompson 6000, SH and Gunslinger: spam the pompson while you're pushing the cart, destroy rockets or stickies if you're subject to spam and deploy a mini just in case if a scout flanks you
One other buff could possibly be to return metal if you actually destroy a projectile. Like 50 per projectile or something.

So basically the widowmaker for projectiles?
50 metal would be too much I think. 20 would be more reasonable.
derp. i forgot it takes metal to fire

Do you really think that you will be able to save your buildings that way? If even hypothetically you may be able to do so, running away from several sticky bombs that have a pretty decent range, crippling for a slow-moving hauling engineer, AND you won't get beaten to dust by pipes thereafter, isn't it pleasant to have your sentry in position and just casually destroy those projectiles like a baws? Who needs you, if you will constantly be moving away from the frontline/midline even?

Sometimes i think that you are trying to make an excuse to beat the poor little Shorty down. :(
The Short Circuit is obviously in need of a huge buff. Every other Engie weapon (excluding wrenches) outclasses it.
Rescue Ranger: Heal and Save your buildings without putting yourself in the danger zone.
Wrangler: Shield gives 3X to Sentry, Increasing survivability
Pistol/Shotguns: Much higher DPS
We just need to wait until the Summer update when Valve hopefully tweaks some weapons.
I was thinking the metal could be bumped down to 30, then give 7 each projectile destroyed. I know it's a weird number, but in a situation where you only have 100 metal, if you can reliably use the SC you can shut down a Soldier if you can zap all his rockets, but if you miss one he could hit you since you won't be able to zap anymore. Plus you can use it against a 5+ sticky trap to get some extra metal back.
Tack on +15% weapon switch speed so it becomes more skill indexed and reliable in battle, and bam it's an awesome sidegrade. (At least I think so)
It's better than sitting there losing 35 metal every .8 seconds trying desperately to never miss a sticky and hopefully never run out of metal.
A much more economical use of that metal is to use the Rescue Ranger and run slightly away from the scene at Engy speed, then grab the building from a distance. You should have enough time from sticky one to sticky three to be able to get far enough to save it and yourself.

What about dispensers?

I'll repeat myself, having a sentry in a position is generally better than changing it. Even with the Rescue Ranger.

Having a sentry in a different position is better than having none at all
You're also 80 metal short of being able to destroy every sticky he fires. Even with a dispenser, it's a tough fight for you to outblock, and even if you do manage to eat his entire clip, you're left with no metal, a dispenser with less metal in it, and a demo that's quickly reloading ready for the next assault (except this time you don't have metal).
