I thought they could
Nope, it was specified that they aren't available through unusual unboxing.
Q: What is happening to this set of nine hats in two weeks? A: These items will no longer be sold in the store, randomly dropped, unboxed as unusuals, or acquired through crafting.
http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=9714
Tough Stuff Aces High has been unboxed, here's an in-game video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m76EN7F6yRk
that intro..
that intro..
He spent all that time on animating it and by god he's going to use it.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/vTHCsRT.jpg[/t]
Some of those are not excessively obnoxious. Rad.
Some of those are not excessively obnoxious. Rad.
Hey, maybe they won't be expensive then. :v:
The question is, what will Crate 60 contain?
Strange Iron Curt- Oh wait. :saddowns:
He spent all that time on animating it and by god he's going to use it.
I hope that effort was worth it.
Strange Bison would be lovely kthx
I just dreamed about strange hats o0 A TRUE DREAM,WHEN I UNBOXED A STRANGE MULLET 0o
The question is, what will Crate 60 contain?
Something terrible and boring, so I won't need to spend half of my backpack to get it
more of the terrible gimmicky weapons that aren't strange now yet just imagine the winger being in it
more of the terrible gimmicky weapons that aren't strange now yet just imagine the winger being in it
It's both hilarious and sad that there are people who would be willing to pay more than a scrap for a Strange Winger just because it's "rare".
It's both hilarious and sad that there are people who would be willing to pay more than a scrap for a Strange Winger just because it's "rare".
I think terrible weapons are the most useful stranges. If you have a Rocket Launcher with a bunch of kills, it just shows that you've played a lot. If you have a Winger with a decent number of kills, it shows that you're badass. I love my strange Amputator.
If you have a Winger with a decent number of kills, it shows that you're badass...
...thought Jimmy while he was farming his Winger to Hale's Own.

I have 28-29 kills on it and I love the feeling of seeing that kill icon from time to time. I can't wait for the S. Winger and S. Claid. I use both and grown to like them quite a lot. Winger is excellent to get that last little damage, get Boost for the BabyFace or just to assist others and the Claid is good for massive escapes, capping intels and surprises. Pair it with the Booties and you can cut corners, getting that Medic that is fleeing behind the Heavy. People don't give a chance to some items and redeem them "useless". Yes in certain situations, some items don't work. Pain Train being an example on CTF, on Defense on one-way CP and Payload. Still doesn't restricts me from using it. I'll just have 10% handicap against hitscans. No biggy.
claid is absolutely beautiful on CTF maps

I want a Strange Rescue Ranger. I wouldn't even get kills, and I know it. But damn, on the occasion that I do kill someone with it, it's saying "you, along with this small amount of other people, have been added to my wall of shame."
Strange Fists in a nutshell.
Or even better, strange GRU.
Oh yeah. Forgot you could get that as a strange.
Or even better, strange GRU.
Even more better, the Strange KGB. Couple that with a Strange Family Business, and you have a counter of how many people you have killed as Heavy the harder way.
Even more better, the Strange KGB. I kill someone, and by then my teammates have killed the others, or the others have run away, not letting me use my krits at all.
I love how everyone gets excited about unusual effects like they get them all the time. Sigh...

Think about it for a moment, right now for you to level it, you need to play Demoknight poorly. The charge apply the crits to your other weapons, which deal MUCH more damage than the Targe itself, meaning you realisticly as a good Demoknight always want to spend your crits in a melee swing(or nade shot), rather than counting on the Targes minimal damage to finish off your opponent. Same goes for a couple of other strange weapons. If you try to kill people off with GRU as Heavy, you're not being credit to team at all, you're just being a fool. Instead it should count something relevant, like distance ran. Atomizer is terrible for melee, it should count your extra jumps instead, etc. This wasn't to flame your abilities as Demoknight for the record. I rarely play Demoknight myself, but I've done so every once in a while since the release of the Strange Targe, and mine is still at 0 kills. I rarely ever fail the melee hit after a charge, and if I do the minor damage from Targe doesn't do the job. What is the point of a Strange that barely ever progress, and reward mistakes? Most stranges are fine, but some could really do with a rework as I see it.

I'm not sure if my playstyle could qualify as "demoknighting", but my main loadout is Loch-n-Load, Targe, Eyelander, I've got 53 kills with the Targe and I feel like I really earned them. A fun thing to remember is that two grenade hits and a full range shield bash with at least 2 heads is usually enough to kill a Heavy at full health. I got so many unsuspecting Heavies this way and it's the most satisfying thing ever. The only thing I think it needs is less kills required to level up, a bit like the Strange Mantreads. Those are just the kind of hilarious and humiliating kills you can pull off only once in a while, and damn they're worth it. And honestly, if you're playing Demoknight and relying on Targe crits to get kills, I think you're doing it wrong. It's so much better to lob a grenade at someone and then finish them off with your sword while they're still in mid air.

It's so much better to lob a grenade at someone and then finish them off with your sword while they're still in mid air.
That's something they've changed while I was gone from TF2 then. Back in the day you could certainly pull out your Grenade Launcher to use the crits, though it was fairly hard to time and use, due to the weapon switch cooldown, the short timeframe with crits, and the odd results when shooting a nade when moving so fast. I'd say anyone who use a shield and sword is Demoknighting, so there's that, nor would I argue that you didn't "earn" the kills. Also, yeah I agree, it's a very satisfying and fun way to get kills, but promoting it like this can mean griefing and unreliable gameplay. It'd be annoyed if I came into a game, and found that my team had several Demoknights who intentionally try to level their strange Targe, which is something very little got the skills to do, and is unreliable for those who can. Demoknight is a pretty bad sub-class compared to the standard Demoman to begin with, and whilst I have abseloutly no problem with people Demoknighting to have fun, I'd be annoyed if they ruin a good game by acting like immortals who can shield bash everyone to death. If people want to rely on shield bashing, they should at the very least use the Splendid Screen, which is MUCH more reliable than the Targe at doing so. Also, while you can use grenades and calculate if you Targe Bash will kill your target, it's still extremely unreliable and hard to land. Unlike your melee, which can be used at any range, deal way more damage AND gives you extra range. Also, I don't mind if people go for the Targe Bash kill every once in a while to have some fun, but the Targe currently promotes doing so often, and that promotes bad Demoknighting, bad gameplay, and bad team contribution overall. They obviously intended you to primarely get kills with your melee weapons while charging, so I think the strange version should promote that. The Strange Splendid Screen could remain as it is currently, but I think it should defnitely be reduced to the Strange Mantreads area... Too bad nobody can afford a freaking Strange Splendid Screen with the current pricing, bloody salvaged crates... As for your last paragraph, I agree. You're a bad Demoknight if you ONLY rely on your melee crit, rather than putting your Grenade Launcher to use. But, I didn't include that because that wasn't related to my point at all. When your enemy is low, and you're ready to charge it for the kill, your melee is by far most reliable, where the shield bash is just a fun gimmick. EDIT: Alternatively, they could change the Targe to work like some stranges do, such as the Wrenches and the PDA. It could level up based on the amount of charges done, but it could ALSO keep track of your kills, now THAT would be a lovely solution, why didn't I think about that before? Hell, I might even send Robin Walker an e-mail about it, if he's still the main guy to contact.
