Honestly, I think I would prefer a donate link on the TF2 blog site. The people who want to pay Valve for making such an epic game free can, and there's MANY less people bitching about premium DLC.
Yeah, this would be the most preferable option, but Valve has time and time again refused donations and told people that they won't just accept money for nothing. :frown:
If they start charging for DLC and hats TF2 will be no better than the MMOs with micro-payments. you'll be alienating an entire group of people who cant buy the update. special DLC items should really should really be for single player games. not multiplayer, it causes unspeakable amounts of rage and jealousy and the worst thing is the people with no DLC cant do anything about it. And dont assume they live in UK, USA or A place where internet shopping/banking is easily available.
Well, we could always ask him on his YouTube channel...
http://www.youtube.com/comment_servlet?all_comments&v=N5zD_ptTwtE&fromurl=/watch%3Fv%3DN5zD_ptTwtE
Let me know when you see "Meet the Medic"
And dont assume they live in UK, USA or A place where internet shopping/banking is easily available.
Except hats have no bearing on gameplay whatsoever other than cosmetic appearance. There are only nine classes anyway, so if hats are no more than $.50 (USD) each, then that's what, $4.50 for all nine classes to be hatted? They can only wear one hat at a time. And that's only for people who play all nine classes. It's seriously cheap, would rake in tons of money for Valve, and best of all it's totally optional. If they left stuff like class weapons free, then everyone would play the game the same way - just the people who support Valve get hats. Big deal. Oh but I forgot, something like that would never work since the entire community is made of spoiled, whiny brats who "rage" if anything costs money or isn't handed to them immediately (random drop whining). I only just recently finally got one of the random drop hats, and I wasn't whining or raging at everyone else for having them. If anything, letting people have hats for money is a good way to STOP the whining over not having a hat, because then EVERYONE can get a cool hat any time they want rather than waiting months and months for one to finally drop. Face the facts: Valve is working for us for FREE. That's awfully nice of them, and since they don't accept donations the least that could happen is giving us optional paid content of some kind, because not only do I think Valve deserves more of my money (and I bought three copies plus tons of store merchandise, so that's saying something) for the work they've done on this game, but also because working for free out of the kindness of one's heart doesn't last too long, so I want to help prolong TF2's life. Even now, TF2 gets put on the back burner so the team can work on more important projects like Left 4 Dead. TF2 isn't going to last forever, and eventually they'll stop making more content for it if it isn't getting enough money to sustain itself. If payment options are OPTIONAL and totally don't affect gameplay, then there's no reason not to. The people who are too cheap can whine about it, but in the end it'll give us more gameplay-affecting updates and give TF2 more longevity.
I heard he quit the team, but its not like finding a guy who does a bad German accent in the voice acting industry to replace him is hard. EDIT: I read this on 4chan so you can take it with a grain of salt, but the guy who did the voicework for Medic hasn't been with the TF2 team since the game launched...he never talks in any of the videos unless its already pre-recorded audio...like in Meet the Spy. He never got any new lines in his update, but this may have been a thing for the later updates. All I've heard is that the guy who did the voicework no longer works with them on TF2.
That's because out of all the TF2 actors he's the busiest and probably most expensive. Valve could still hire them any time they wanted I bet.
Valve IS making money off the updates to an extent. It garners big attention and publicity, then they put it up for sale when a major update hits to attract a new audience Whether it's been a successful plan in the long run or not is anyone's guess

The game is two years old; plenty of time to rake in everyone who was ever going to want this game. Hell, the last promotion they did dropped the price to $2.49. Kind of seems like a last ditch effort to bring in the last few people who were late to the party.
Please stay in your refugees, there's coming something big
I feel kinda sorry for him, he's doing all this serious acting and voicework now and all he gets is people spamming Medic lines all over his channel :frown:
For doing relatively few lines, he seems to have attracted a huge following for one character, if anything he should be proud of his badass voice.
Valve isn't working for free you know, they act like that because they know that if they treat the customers well, they have bigger chances or buying their other products and that if you like constant updates and there's a new one with a free weekend you're likely to tell your friend "Hey try this" and your friend likes it and he buys it. It's just a big marketing plot that is actually not totally evil and cares for the customer in a way (To then use it without him knowing)

They've directly said it before. It's still fact that TF2 is going to reach the end of its life fairly soon if it continues as-is, though. I mean come on, TF2 is currently a very cheap game, and for a while they even sold it for as low as $2.49. That's not even bargain bin pricing! Unless some people over at Valve seriously love us enough to keep working on this game for peanuts, there's no doubt that TF2, which is already a two-year-old game, isn't going to last much longer. Without another means of revenue, I predict that their plan is/would be to finish off the last class packs and then move on, maybe releasing some bug fixes every now and again from there on out. They have bigger, more current projects to work on, and we already know that the TF2 team is constantly outsourced to those projects.
I hope these connection issues will be fixed by then. :frown:
They will probably give the soldier, a toy soldier hat... for christmas... like those nutcrackers. suddenly, valve sees this post and scraps the hat they were working on.
Yeah, because they scrapped the bonk Helmet and Firebrigade helmets they were making :downs:
For doing relatively few lines, he seems to have attracted a huge following for one character, if anything he should be proud of his badass voice.
wow! the guy really goes around when it comes to voice-acting.
My one question is...how the hell are they gonna update the engineer. A um..better wrench? WEAK!!! [editline]04:43AM[/editline]
For doing relatively few lines, he seems to have attracted a huge following for one character, if anything he should be proud of his badass voice.
True that. I remember when everyone was hating on the medic. We sure as hell showed them! I agree that he needs a video, but what would the plot be?
My one question is...how the hell are they gonna update the engineer. A um..better wrench? WEAK!!!
Rated wrench. :v: And personally, I liked the P.D.Q. from the closed beta. I hope they use it or an iteration of it. It's a Godsend for offensive Engineering.
Free hats sent out to everyone on christmas morning. :buddy:
One of the only times the optimistic rating has been used properly.
Valve is making so much money both on their own IP's and the Steam platform. I don't expect them to charge for any of the updates in the foreseeable future. [editline]02:03AM[/editline]
I'm hoping for a Voice Update where they add like 100 new lines to every class for all kinds of situations, banter between characters, new domination lines for everyone, more voice commands ("Sniper!"), link-up taunts (i.e. high-fives), and maybe Meet the Medic.
So many times as medic have I heard the "THANKS!" command given. I want so much for there to be a "You're Welcome" response.

It's what I use. :D
Xmas update would be p cool, too bad it's a bit obvious the hat would be a santa hat.
Either that or raindeer antlers, or both, and maybe a rudolph nose
I miss the times medic would scream "Hello, Fräuleins!" as a taunt That was the shit.
Ah, I hoped trading would come for Christmas... Well, he said probably so there's small chance... Very small. But yeah, seeing as they did Halloween, I think they might do something for Xmas.
Valentine's Day. No hate just people running around having gay se- NO.
Oh yes :smug:
Well, im hoping for a nice well-rounded and balanced update. as you can see, im clearly putting my hopes up too high. Valve is Valve and they own TF2, they decide whatever the hell they want to do for TF2, just thank god they dont listen to the stupid retards in the steam forums, thats why they employed professional retards, known as playtesters.
My one question is...how the hell are they gonna update the engineer. A um..better wrench? WEAK!!!
Engineer Update: New buildings. Probably something to aid them against their nemesis, the Spy, and maybe stuff to encourage slightly-more mobile Engineering.
Engineer Update: New buildings. Probably something to aid them against their nemesis, the Spy, and maybe stuff to encourage slightly-more mobile Engineering.
Something like The Snack Bar !
I thought something like a mobile Sentry that looks like a dog, but a Snack Bar sounds pretty interest.
