• Is TF2 market crashing?

To answer the question in the title, yes. It started crashing when keys hit fucking 4+ ref.
I hope so, I want to get an unusual for a key. :v:
But why didn't it go down in any moment? I mean, the price only raised, never dropping even a scrap. Was it just pure idling and people doing "buying keys 2.55, selling keys 2.77 trade me if interested"? I miss the old days when keys were a stable currency and I had their prices memorized...
I believe it may have something to do with the Steam Market and rising popularity of items-4-cash nonsense, people who don't play TF2 anymore started cashing out, not really caring about their metal-to-key ratio because hey, it's basically free money for them.
In a few years, one key will be worth more than 20 ref.
In a few years, one key will be worth more than 20 ref.
It could be a few months, they're at 6 already.
I personally think when they get past 7 refined keys will crash.
I personally think when they get past 7 refined keys will crash.
I heard that when they were 3.66, and the guy saying that they would crash at 5 refined. :v:
In a few years, one key will be worth more than 20 ref.
I want to live to see that day, so I can laugh.
I will never get over the fact that people demand so much Refined Metal for one key. I thought it was good at 2 Refined Metal and 1 Reclaimed Metal. That made so much sense. Now? It's ridiculous. You have to be an idiot to trade for a key now, either in naivete, or if you can afford it, you dedicate too much of your life to trading. I've been playing TF2 for four years, now, was there when hats became a thing, and still can't comprehend how or why people gain so many "expensive items." It's terrible. [editline]26th July 2013[/editline] I'm ecstatic to see that a good number of cosmetics are so cheap, now. Whenever I see a new cosmetic, I always expect people to want 5 refined for each new one that comes out, the price seldom going down. And then the robot items crash down to cheap? That's fantastic, to me. Play for a few weeks, get enough drops for a new hat.

I think it's perfectly normal for key prices to go up. There's more and more metal available in the game, with less and less demand for it.

In addition, the market's so saturated with metal that it will be a long time before keys go back down. [Sp] unless valve introduces a legit incentive to mash refined together[/sp]

Mashing 3 together simply isn't worth it when you can simply trade for 2 hats to force into one for a fraction of the metal cost. Then of course there's people who already have hats that they're comfortable staying with, so they have extremely little reason to bother with crafting in the first place. Craft numbers don't do jack for eating up metal since everyone just mashes hats together for it, and even if that were restricted to metal crafting, it'd still be gone within a few days and then we're back where we started with no incentive to craft metals.
I personally think when they get past 7 refined keys will crash.
Personally I really doubt that. Let's see :)
I remember when I got into trading like year ago and keys were 2.33
That's really weird http://backpack.tf/stats/5021/6/0 1- "Ok stop this the price is getting too hight and us down there have more and more difficulties to buy them " " OMG you barely have a cancer unusual you know nothing about trading gtfo prices suggestions are for pro traders" 2- " Look I have 500 keys in my bp i sold 150 of them at 5.88 with my alts scattered all over the outpost so you can raise the price " " accepted " I caricature but imo that's actually what's going on
I have never understood why you value these numbers, I mean you guys save up materials into the 50's like the buds and just give them all away for 1 measly purple hat how do you guys even amass 50 earbuds without paying? what is the process i see so many people with like 100 buds and 300 hats of the same kind and it just boggles my mind :v:

Sometimes I wish I would think twice before trading all my hats to refined. I can't fucking sell it, with those key prices.
Sometimes I wish I would think twice before trading all my hats to refined. I can't fucking sell it, with those key prices.
You can, but you will either have to take some time, or buy for 2 scrap above the backpack.tf upper price range.
I predict that one day, key's will go so low that everyone will flock to buy from the Market instead of the Mann Co. Store. My instincts tells me that people will want more people buying their items, hence will put prices lower than competitors. This will keep going until one day, the value of a certain item is so low that it is practically worthless.
You can, but you will either have to take some time, or buy for 2 scrap above the backpack.tf upper price range.
Hell no, I thought of something like the usual 3 ref per key edit: sold em all for 5.88, I hope I won't ever touch tf2 again
Wait since when have Bills been 7 keys? And craft hats 1.22?
i think the tf2 economy is about to crash because the community market price for a key is 1.62 €, but if we look at the trading market, a price of a key is 5.66-6 ref. Now, considering that on backpack.tf a refined is valued 0.33-0.35€ (converted 0.43-0.45$), according to that price a key is worth 2.70€ (2.03€!!) way more than market and mann.co store, so people prefer to buy keys on the community market than buy them whit keys. i think at one point we will reach a price difference between community market and trading market, that a key will be valued tons of refined (because refined is going to be priced crap) and people will buy exclusively on community market because it would be pointless to buy key on trading market.
Don't play TF2 anymore BUT I still buy keys from the steam market. Russian traders in games often have much much lower prices then the Steam store and if you use keys instead of paypal it is just much safer to trade since you are using the offical steam trading.
Wait since when have Bills been 7 keys? And craft hats 1.22?
It's possible to buy bill's hat for 7 keys since about 1 week ago, same as 1.22 hat.
Just let it die. Let it die, for real this time.
The TF2 economy is an interesting one, if only because of how blisteringly stupid it can be at times. I mean, its driven by a consumer base that constantly post ░░░░░░░░░░░████ ░░░░░░░░░░░█░░█ ░░░░░░░░░░█░░░█ ░░░░░░░░░█░░░░█ ███████▄▄█░░░░░██████▄ ▓▓▓▓▓▓█░░░░░░░░░░░░░░█ ▓▓▓▓▓▓█░░░░░░░░░░░░░░█ ▓▓▓▓▓▓█░ Valve Add This░░░█ ▓▓▓▓▓▓█░░░░ Please! ░░░░░█ ▓▓▓▓▓▓█░░░░░░░░░░░░░░█ ▓▓▓▓▓▓█████░░░░░░░░░█ ░░░░░░░░░░░████████ on every fucking workshop piece. you can only assume that section is made up of the prepubecent portion of the fanbase, who lack money management skills and common sense, making them very easy to abuse.
The market isn't really crashing, he just become more and more weird because of uncontrolled "community" prices getting even more ridiculous. Rich people richer, not so richer people poorer. Just like the real world in fact
how in the world do you manage to get poorer in a game that throws currency at you for playing?
how in the world do you manage to get poorer in a game that throws currency at you for playing?
You get relatively poorer maybe.
