let's turn our attention toward an accurate metaphor for the state of the team fortress 2 economy
Oh god, this is the best When I'm X video on earth! And also pretty accurate. Gosh, this is better than a poetry!
I always pay more than the backpack.tf price because it's fucking hard to find people that actually sell items for that price.
For everything?? [editline]28th July 2013[/editline]
let's turn our attention toward an accurate metaphor for the state of the team fortress 2 economy
LOL So true.
I enjoyed being able to get all of the Triad Hats for the tiny amount of money I got from trading cards, when months ago I was seeing people selling the set for like, 4x the price in keys.
Valve should make it so that during certain months crafting a hat with four-five ref has a chance of getting a random unusual. Metal has use, unusuals become more affordable. Everyone I care about wins!
But then all the metal/key hoarders could potentially craft a ton of unusuals, and then sell them for a ton of money on the community market/sell them for even more metal. It would also defeat the point of unboxing unusuals, since the only way to get them currently is via crates. It just ends up being free money for them, but less money for Valve (less keys bought). Edit: Everyone but Valve wins

Maybe that's a bit exaggerated, but those people still lose.
I would be very scared if these people were to go into economics.
I would be very scared if these people were to go into economics.
Do you mean the people replied to this post?
The TF2 economy is an interesting one, if only because of how blisteringly stupid it can be at times. I mean, its driven by a consumer base that constantly post ░░░░░░░░░░░████ ░░░░░░░░░░░█░░█ ░░░░░░░░░░█░░░█ ░░░░░░░░░█░░░░█ ███████▄▄█░░░░░██████▄ ▓▓▓▓▓▓█░░░░░░░░░░░░░░█ ▓▓▓▓▓▓█░░░░░░░░░░░░░░█ ▓▓▓▓▓▓█░ Valve Add This░░░█ ▓▓▓▓▓▓█░░░░ Please! ░░░░░█ ▓▓▓▓▓▓█░░░░░░░░░░░░░░█ ▓▓▓▓▓▓█████░░░░░░░░░█ ░░░░░░░░░░░████████ on every fucking workshop piece. you can only assume that section is made up of the prepubecent portion of the fanbase, who lack money management skills and common sense, making them very easy to abuse.
It's a bunch of little kids attempting miserably at understanding Economics 101.
It's a bunch of little kids attempting miserably at understanding Economics 101.
I tried to wrap my head around everything with supply determines demand and vice versa blah blah blah; then I realized it makes no logical sense when applied to tf2. :tinfoil:
Don't play TF2 anymore BUT I still buy keys from the steam market. Russian traders in games often have much much lower prices then the Steam store and if you use keys instead of paypal it is just much safer to trade since you are using the offical steam trading.
I know a dude in Ukraine who will buy me any game for the price there and then sell it to me for that +15% interest in current key/dollar price. I've bought almost all of my games through this guy.
Is there any actual evidence that there is more metal in circulation or are people just pulling it out of their ass Currency as far as I know has to be in circulation, or it won't really affect the economy. I could be wrong though
this is what happens when you let kids run an economy almost laissez faire
Trading is Dead already
Trading is Dead already
Trading won't be dead until Valve stops supporting TF2 and everyone's hats go poof. I'll be honest when I say I really don't want that though, and would like it if they got transferred over to TF3 whenever that happens.
As a person who hoards items and such, this is pretty good news. Means I will spend less on items I want (and won't sell on). In saying that, hate to be the traders who sell for a profit. Quite the large egg on their faces now...
Trading is Dead already
Disagreed
I mean, there are even people deciding prices on Steam workshop items before they even/will come out. Wtf??
Disagreed
I know you're new here, but don't ever do that. There's a reason these things called "ratings" exist. Also, There seems to be a lot more unusuals roaming around. Like 3 times as many since I last did a trading spree to get what I needed... Like, This guy has about 30 different unusuals he is selling. That just doesn't sit well with me
I know you're new here, but don't ever do that. There's a reason these things called "ratings" exist.
That's a zinger.
That's a zinger.
I Agree
That's a zinger.
That was a funny one.
I think I'll just take a break from tf2 now, I can't handle this inflated market or hat tycoon crap anymore. Hell, there was a time I cared more about weapons that helped me kill more people than a glowing hat.

scrap.tf takes craft hats for 1.22 now welcome to the next part of the end
scrap.tf takes craft hats for 1.22 now welcome to the next part of the end
To be fair, it's still in a normal range for craft hats. They've always been in the range of 1 ref- 1.33, never more or less. It's not like this key bullshit where the price just raises to infinity.
To be fair, it's still in a normal range for craft hats. They've always been in the range of 1 ref- 1.33, never more or less. Now these item prices changed, so everything is gonna change.
