Valve is famous in the game industry for "breaking the pattern", so I wouldn't be surprised.
That's breaking patterns set by other people usually. They broke their own patterns when they were young, but now most people are familiar with their system. That's why people freaked out when the made L4D2 in a year. I think they're going to be more careful about breaking the pattern. I mean, releasing instantly would be great, but knowing Valve they're probably only half-way done with the update right now. :v:

Tis called a crew cut. It is given to crewmen of the US military so it would help them fight in battle. Pulling on hair, getting hot, hair getting in vision/entanglement, etc. The soldier is not bald, he has really really short hair.

Tis a dual update with supar medic moovies. (Warning: may include cows)
Valve has said they always wanted to do dual updates. They finally go to it with spy and sniper. Now they will do it more. With the backpack increase, we may see a new set of updates. I figure it is 3 weps per class with 2 hats per class this time around though.
That is for us to find out in due time.
Here's my crack pot theory.
The Soldier will also get a weapon similar to the Demo sticky launcher. They will be able to pick up each others "stickies" (opposite teams) and combine them with there own for more damage. This will also give both the players a point when they kill someone with the combo. The player who picks up the stickies will run the risk of the enemy Demo/Soldier betraying him and detonating the explosives while they are still in his possession.

Solly's been the Soldier's nickname for a while, especially among the comp community. It never caught on as much as Engy or Demo, though.
It sure sounds funny though.
