Maybe this was done on purpose, because they wanted to see how players would react to a situation where they could craft their only copies of weapons to get other weapons or hats.
Otherwise they'd force everybody to use Natascha and the spy set.
Also does 5gorge seem stalemate-prone to anyone else? In the few hours or so that I played on it, it went into overtime on two rounds

TF2 players then destroy all of their unique weapons to get a hat.
:smithicide:
Hat obsessed morons right there.

Sandbox? I play normally with it, and it's awesome
You're the ones who don't get the point. When I did it I had no idea if it would even work, so I just tried it. Curiosity and the prospect of cheating the system are exciting. You're just mad because of your silly self-righteous feelings.
[editline]5th December 2010[/editline]
Besides, I have every unlockable in the normal game, and they're all vintage where applicable.
[editline]5th December 2010[/editline]
If anything the beta's more limited since it lacks the Polycount weapons. Probably because they want to test sets individually. In which case whether I have the old unlockables or not doesn't really matter. I never use them, so no point in wasting them.
I used the spy set and Natascha for a while before doing that, too. I'm awful at spy so I just kept dying as usual, and Natascha felt pretty much the same as before (I used the slower spin-up/cool-down time one), because I tend to rev it up whenever I hear an enemy anyway.

Do you understand what a "beta" is for? You're not supposed to just see how the test weapons work, but also see how they work against and combined with other weapons.
That is the entire point of the beta, and you decided that going for a hat was better investment.
What I do with my TF2 license is my business.
[editline]5th December 2010[/editline]
As I already said I never use them anyway. Except for the Gunslinger occasionally, but I still have it. So, no difference.
[editline]5th December 2010[/editline]
You know, I get your point, it's kind of a waste. If the team cares about it as much as you do it shouldn't be hard for them to "reset" everybody's backpack, anyway, so we'll see. In the end, it doesn't affect me very much, because I rarely ever use weapons other than the stock ones.
is there a reason the beta is 9 gigs?
Yes.
I just ran a TF2 cvarlist and a TF2Beta cvarlist through Notepad++'s Compare plugin. As it turns out, they're almost identical. The only real difference is that TF2 has two extra console commands.
(For anyone who is curious, they are "loader_dump_table" and "loader_spew_info".)
Sorry, guys. :frown:
Beta participants who craft their weapons into scrap metal or hats should be denied access to the beta.
I did not know that hats, polycount weapons, and the Mann Co. store are not available in the beta. I began downloading it as soon as I discovered this. This is just what I've been looking for. :buddy:
Considering one could theoretically only make one hat and only keep a few unlockable weapons, you really have no reason to be jealous of them or whatever makes you think it's worth a ban.
Anyone who has purchased a TF2 license has the right to participate in the beta, and nobody cheated to get the new weapons or hats. So there's really no reason to do that. Blame the TF2 team for omitting to disable craft recipes if it was involuntary.
[editline]6th December 2010[/editline]
If they cared they'd have disabled those recipes soon after anyway. Who knows, maybe they're preparing a special item for those who didn't craft anything!
I crafted my weapons into a hat using SAM to get extra material. I got a Pugilist's Protector. Crafted that and the Fez and got a Tyrants Helmet.
The reason? Fuck unlockables, I can beat other players without them. I kept the Dead Ringer, C&D, Eternal Reward an L'Étranger, because they actually make Spy a challange to play (Okay, counting out the cloaking devices).
There. I didn't do it to get a HAT, I did it because I don't like the unlocks.
It's spelled L'Étranger.
[editline]6th December 2010[/editline]
Also I didn't do it to get a hat either but I still got spammed with dumbs because THIS IS NOT HOW YOU DO THE BETA
What I do with my TF2 license is my business.
After reading the last page and a bit
Why you even got the beta is beyond me.
Beta participants who craft their weapons into scrap metal or hats should be denied access to the beta.
Agreed

This is what the stable TF2 should be.
No, a stable TF2 wouldn't have hats, polycount/unlockables or the Mann Co. Store.
I'm ok with unlockables, the ones that are balanced anyway
ie the FaN could do with some serious nerfing
But eh.
the FaN is a useless piece of shit
I'm glad natascha is being looked at
I'd like to see the sandman in the beta as well but they've pretty much given up on it, it's basic concept is just too flawed to work
the FaN is a useless piece of shit
I find it brutally overpowered
It's got me to the top of the leaderboard 3 times
Both the scout and the FaN need nerfing
the fan's only downside is easily compensated for by the scout's speed
I'm glad natascha is being looked at
It's being over nerfed
There's 3 variants, 2 of them are completely unusable
the third is still a little tough, and makes the Minigun the obvious choice.
[editline]6th December 2010[/editline]
Though yeah, as Natascha is,
If you manage to hit them with a single bullet
your 99% of the time gonna get a kill.
Slowdown is a terrible idea.
Valve is sooooo retarded for even having the weapons craftable. Now there's people running around with Polycount weapons.
Maybe it was their plan so it was like real tf2 and you're retarded. :colbert:

FaN isn't overpowered it's just lame and rage inducing. The shortstop, however, is INCREDIBLY overpowered, especially with the Special Delivery set.
Okay, I played like 30 minutes of the beta, tested some Natasha variants but ...holy shit did they increased the crit rate ?
I shot 3 crit rockets in a row during my first game, and kept killing a lot of people with crits, and not only as a soldier, but with any class.
Have you noticed anything about that ?
Maybe it was their plan so it was like real tf2 and you're retarded. :colbert:
You are the only person to get butthurt over the fact I insulted your beloved video game company. :what:

yes the entire point of the beta was for you to 'pwn' some 'nubs', congratulations!

we've been over this.
I find it funny how only in beta people realise how natascha is not at all good, or how they realise only in beta that FaN is overpowered. Seriously, lol.
I mean no shit? Natascha either has -damage or -hp or whatever the fuck, so in all cases the O.G. minigun is better, I mean at least for myself, there is no reason to use natascha unless you are bad at aiming

Why didn't people whine about FaN being OP in the actual game?
Natascha isn't very good now that it has been nerfed.
The Force-a-Nature is awful. It's only better than the Scattergun at 1v1ing 150 HP or less classes. The Scattergun is better in every other single way. You are trading 4 shots for +8 damage (113 damage meatshots instead of 105), longer reload times, a 3rd jump not useful on 9 out of 10 maps, and pushback which doesn't matter if you have good movement.
Lemme know when FaN can do any of this:

e: Natascha is better on live because it can kill everything just fine except Sascha Heavies which you should be able to avoid anyways by paying attention, and it has teamwork benefits, allowing Spies an easier time to backstab people, projectiles an easier time to hit, Snipers easier time to hs, prevents people from getting to medkits, etc etc etc. Actually give it a real serious try on live for a couple hours since you clearly haven't if you don't even know the drawback, then you'll probably see how ridiculous it is.
Removing hats and a store makes an FPS balanced.
OK

Well the point isn't to beat players, the point is to test unlockables and what you're doing is throwing it all down the drain because you think LOLHATISHUDNTHAEV

They probably think they'll be able to keep the hat after the beta.
Ohohohohoho
