I have a new job, so I should be able to afford me some keys.
Keys are kind of fun and all as a testament to our society of excess, but I hope they add in some community MvM map content here along with these crates. That's the kind of stuff I'd spring tickets for.
I give Valve money when I think they're doing something cool, but given the option between a few keys so I can continue collecting crates (salvageds set you back, people are crazy with them) or giving community contributors a bit of thanks, I'd do the latter.
Guys I figured it out.
1. Find Robocrate, or buy it at a low price
2. Do this rwice
3. Sell one of the crates for a ridiculous amount
4. Wait until keys are available
5. Buy key, unbox crate
6. Sell contents for another ridiculously high price
7. Wait until the crates are a scrap-ish
8. Buy them all with one of your profits
9. If you have real money, buy keys from the store, if not, buy with other income
10. Keep unboxing and selling
11. Eventually set the prices really high because people buy this high
12. Embrace your wealth
I've got thirteen bucks sitting in my steam wallet after selling off some genuines and buying a steam card to get Blood Dragon. I haven't got any crates, but I'll have plenty for keys.
I'm playing it smart and go directly for the hats and items that come out of the crate, because 99% of the time, you don't get what your key is worth out of the crates.
After the event is over, usually the items are a mere 1 refined.
