Major Update Speculation Thread V22: Steampipe For Reals This Time
1,000 replies, posted
I switched to steampipe today. You should probably do the same if you haven't already. I'm going to speculate a bit and tell you why you should do so, ASAP:
Everyone will be switching to steampipe on the 30th no matter what. Judging by how slow things tend to get when you download a major update, you'll probably switch at a slower pace if you do it at the same time as the rest of the playerbase.
Beta steampipe TF2 now functions better than regular TF2 does, which means there has never been a better time to switch: sooner, it would've been a buggy mess, later, it's going to take longer.

Can you still get SMAC banned by switching to SteamPipe?
unless you want to play mvm.
IIRC it's only matchmaking that's broken. So unless you're talking about MANN UP!, MvM runs smoothly outside of a couple texture errors I had today, which I'm pretty sure are related to my graphics card.
As for MANN UP!, it hasn't gotten any new loot since december, so unless you've been unable to play it since then, you're better off waiting for any new MvM map that might come out with this update.
Either way, boot camp can, as always, be accessed from the server browser.
I'm hoping for some sorta robotic ninja thing, or robo eyepatch, or something. Something to satisfy my Metal Gear mood for TF2.
Can you still get SMAC banned by switching to SteamPipe?
Valve has released a hotfix that will be in effect until the update rolls out proper, at which point if the server owners don't use the official SMAC fix, these bannings will begin to happen again, and the owners of these servers will be held responsible for their negligence by their own communities.
IIRC it's only matchmaking that's broken. So unless you're talking about MANN UP!
I haven't fully tested it but you can be invited into lobbies and probably Mann up just fine.

Never thought I would see a pixel version of Octoloaf.
so will the big update come at the same time as steam pipe, the 30th?

Update with SteamPipe? Yes. Big update? No.
But don't take my word for it.
I'm predicting a generic seasonal crate with the workshop items we've been begging for myself.
[del]If[/del] [del]When[/del] Soon when the Steampipe update hits, it's gonna be a bitch to convert all those idle accounts :v:
AFAIK, there's no need to convert for each and every account, as it will grab the content from one account and use that.

not if he's sandboxing multiple steam applications.
I would suggest you convert one of them and copy the files over to your other sandboxes

I just launch the one steam install I have.
I haven't run into any issues either.
I can even run both at the same time.
I do have to log in every time I launch steam though. Don't know if my setup affects that though.
I also don't idle too much lately though.
My Steam crashed the first couple of times I got Steampipe, apparently you have to leave it alone for quite a lot of time for it to download properly.
so will the big update come at the same time as steam pipe, the 30th?
Seeing as how robocrates are already dropping I'm guessing we'll get the big update within the next week or two. I doubt it will be on the 30th, I do see the 2nd as a possibility.
Did steampipe leave the ability to have multiple different accounts running multiple different HUDs simultaneously?
I got a Portal update of about 144mb. Irrelevant? Also, the save files are lounging in the common folder instead of my user files.
Is Portal getting a Pipe treatment, or has my HD gone screwy?

Now that we got THAT out of the way, do you guys think that they are going to shift Portal 2 into SteamPipe after they get done with shifting TF2 into SteamPipe?
I'd be pretty fucking stoked if in the robo-crates we got Misc Items like the Zombie Costumes that let us play as RED Robots
so what is the steam pipe beta code you need to type in?

I'm still hoping that They will add Non Stock Bot-killer weps to game via Robo-Crates. Although if they whole robot costumes will be what's inside i'm wondering if they will use the same animations as the human player models.

You don't need a code

Bot-killers were unimaginative and lazily made. I would much prefer community items to crap reskins.
Robot costumes for Full Moon would be cool

New Halloween Soldier lines for fighting robots, please.

Anyway, I still vote "Major Update Speculation Thread V23: The Update Without A Testinglol"
Heck, the next thread may not even make it to the update at this rate.
