People asked for content. Even on this forum people were waiting for the Christmas update and the extra Polycount pack, and now they're complaining about that added content.
They also asked for "Meet The" videos and optimization.
I'm not sure which is worse between SPUF and this honestly.
I feel like mistakes have been made and things need to be addressed but I really don't see why everyone is all huffing and puffing so much about this new update.
Okay, so because Valve didn't add fucking everything they wanted they're now evil, greedy, game-ruining bastards?
Okay, so because Valve didn't add fucking everything they wanted they're now evil, greedy, game-ruining bastards?
I didn't say any of that, I just wanted to show you "The community asked for it" can't be the primary reason. Is that over-interpretation a parody?
Uhoh, I think Tabarnaco is sucking me into yet another personal argument... better stop now.

oh my god do you ever shut up
no seriously, i know this is the right place for this but jesus christ you're annoying
They also improves sv_pure, which people wanted for a while.

How is it not a primary reason? They even specifically mentioned in their blog post that "you demanded a holiday update so here it is".
[editline]19th December 2010[/editline]
Just because they didn't have the time to do everything people wanted doesn't mean that they're not doing it because people want it.
Okay, so because Valve didn't add fucking everything they wanted they're now evil, greedy, game-ruining bastards?
No, they added things without proper forethought and therefor fucked up the game further by causing insurmountable amounts of bugs. Not to mention the fact that the community has been asking for optimization since the scout update. But the game has been performing worse and worse with every update.
I don't dislike Valve for adding content to the game over the past two years, it's just the fact that they haven't been doing anything to make the game work. Which, should be prioritized over silly things like hats.

I don't think that's the case though. There's always people saying they don't like this or that after a big update, and that's totally normal.
But this update has been different. Way more people are expressing distaste over the additions and missing how the game used to be.
I'm not sure what it is, but something about this update has really rubbed people the wrong way.

None of those change the gameplay

Never heard of that.

I'm pretty sure they optimized the game a while ago, maybe during the Halloween update, I remember people mentioning they got a 10fps increase or something.

Confusion from not knowing everything about the items beforehand, added to the fact that some aren't dropping and aren't craftable yet, people were thinking "oh shit Valve wants us to pay for weapons now!", and people expected winter crates to open magically or something and they don't in the end.
people expected winter crates to open magically or something and they don't in the end.
What unreasonable expectations.
That reminds me, I still have to buy some keys or I won't be able to unlock my RL Christmas gifts.
Joke aside, you can't blame people for thinking that way, but I think the update as a whole is the real gift. Albeit it's not all that special considering Valve is doing them a lot, but gift is gift.
That's silly. They're crates. Crates in TF2 always had to be opened with keys. Many many people called for it, some said the keys would be even more expensive than the regular ones, at least they aren't.
And it's not Christmas yet, maybe they'll have keys drop on Christmas.
I do find it ridiculous that they didn't put keys on sale this week-end though.

"Optmization! We made the game run better and more effici- oh, wait a second, this doesn't look right."
Seriously, do you do any research what so fucking ever? If they had optimized the game they would have addressed these stupid polycounts. Notice how almost all the high polycount shit is form the community? This is why the game is becoming ruined, community content becoming official has lowered the quality standard overall.

Ahaha, thanks for the best laugh I've had in a while. Valve won't do something like that now the Mann Co. Store is up and running and has proven to be a idiot trap.
I have not played TF2 for months.
Not feelin it.

There's a difference between opimization and "optimization the way I want it".

No there isn't. Making the game run better is no different from, y'know, making the game run better. :colbert:
I noticed that, I thought that it a low resolution version or something, it's pretty lazy.
[editline]19th December 2010[/editline]
Heck, many weapons were made pretty lazily. But it doesn't affect the gameplay so I don't care.
I liked the halloween update.
you wouldn't have if they had made the halloween hats and put them in halloween crates and added halloween keys
No there isn't. Making the game run better is no different from, y'know, making the game run better. :colbert:
In this case he denied that they optimized the game because they didn't decrease the amount of polygons on weapon models (though I'm pretty sure they recently said they were working on it). "Significantly improving vertex compression" is optimization whether it's the optimization you want or not.
No, but jesus fucking Christ my opinion of Valve has changed after this update. The store? I could deal with that, I didn't need unusuals that I think look like shit anyway, they don't change the game. The polycount hats being part of the set and costing heaps to craft? Also okay, I could get them if I really wanted.
But this update, this fucking update. Crate only hats that will no longer be available after the 31st? Fine, I don't care if I miss out on a few, they're hats, I can deal with that. But Crate only weapons that will no longer be available after the 31st? Gameplay altering god damn weapons becoming unobtainable? Get fucked Valve, go suck a dick.
So, no, they haven't ruined the game, they haven't made Tf2 terrible, they've just become a bunch of money hungry dickbags. I've gone and gotten all 5 of the limited time weapons just to ensure I don't miss out or have to pay a huge amount due to a price increase after they become unobtainable.
Pre Mannconomy update: "Valve is so great updating this 3 year old game with brand new content for free"
Post Christmas update: "Valve is activision I am uninstalling this game and telling you all about it for no reason"
The crate-only weapons are only crate-only because they're not in the store yet.
That's silly. They're crates. Crates in TF2 always had to be opened with keys. Many many people called for it, some said the keys would be even more expensive than the regular ones, at least they aren't.

Valve could also have given people keys for free or make them obtainable by different means. For example, you can only get a key if someone else gives them to you. You'll always be depending on somebody else to give you the possibility to open a crate (or an alt account) which would indirectly mean the TF2 community gives each other gifts without having to even lose something themselves.
The idea isn't developed, but you know where I'm coming from.
The crate-only weapons are only crate-only because they're not in the store yet.
But that's also a bad thing. Why oh why don't they just make them droppable/craftable?
