The crate-only weapons are only crate-only because they're not in the store yet.
Brilliant observation!
Also sam2d2 is right.
Valve could also have given people keys for free or make them obtainable by different means. For example, you can only get a key if someone else gives them to you. You'll always be depending on somebody else to give you the possibility to open a crate (or an alt account) which would indirectly mean the TF2 community gives each other gifts without having to even lose something themselves.
The idea isn't developed, but you know where I'm coming from.
But I don't have friends who buy things from the Mann Co. store and I'm sure I'm not the only one in that situation. So people would complain about being unable to get those keys.
In this case he denied that they optimized the game because they didn't decrease the amount of polygons on weapon models (though I'm pretty sure they recently said they were working on it). "Significantly improving vertex compression" is optimization whether it's the optimization you want or not.
It is unnoticable now thanks to the extra models piled in on top of what there was when that came out. You'll probably find they HAD to do that to actually get more items in. Lowering the poly count is not hard, and would give much more noticeable results as the GPU has to work less. Adding the missing LOD models would also be more noticeable than that joke of an optimisation you enjoy pointing out.
Valve are a game developer, they should know how to optimise their own games, instead of lowering the footprint slightly to jam more unoptimized shit in.

It was in reply to the guy who said there were crate-only weapons two posts above me, got ninja'd.
Or it could prove that Facepunch is full of whiners. :downs:
I remember the Halloween update, people were complaining about crates and hats and things like that here, when in another forum I visited no one cared.
facepunch whiners whining about something proves that that something fucked up somewhere

I have a one-year-old computer that I build myself for cheap and it runs fine at the highest settings, at one point people should upgrade their gaming machines, too.
You're also disregarding their efforts in optimizing the game because it's "not enough" for you? People were reporting they had 10 more fps in-game if I remember correctly. That's pretty dramatic.
And once again, I remember people mentioning that they were working models with less polygons.
Edit: Ah, I misread parts of your post, fair enough. But the last line still applies. :v:
Why can't people just play the game and enjoy it? Take the good with the bad. That's what I do and I enjoy all of my games.
Pre Mannconomy update: "Valve is so great updating this 3 year old game with brand new content for free"
Post Christmas update: "Valve is activision I am uninstalling this game and telling you all about it for no reason"
If that was directed at me, please sir, kindly fuck off. I never said I was uninstalling the game, and I made that post because it was relevant to the thread's subject, the one thing I did say however was that I don't think Valve have ruined the game.
If it wasn't directed at me, ignore the above.
There's a difference between opimization and "optimization the way I want it".

No, I'm pretty sure the community as a whole has a solid idea as to how they want the game optimized. They want the game to work. As of now, I can barely play this game with all the particle effects, high poly models and other useless features. Sure, they look nice, but there should at least be an option to turn them off. There is no way in hell why I shouldn't be able to play a 2 year old game on my brand fucking new computer.
The game isn't ruined.
The balance is.
Item sets give too great of advantages without any major disadvantages.

For one "they want the game to work" is hardly "solid". I already clarified my position on this topic, so read my previous posts.
I don't think it would be easy to just disable particles and "useless features" like that. Could take a lot of work depending on how the game is coded.

I agree and I hope they'll work on it. They already fixed Natascha (or at least tried to) and they've got the beta so I don't think they'll just leave everything in the game like that.
You are right. A 10FPS boost is a lot to most people. But this was by the the time they struggled to hit 30, when they got 60+ before. My GTx460 struggles to get near 100 at some points in the game. It's more than capable of much more than that though.
Valve should have been optimising the models ages ago, the fact they have only just caught on is one of the reasons I am beginning to think the TF2 team just aren't bothered about quality anymore.
Maybe they couldn't work on it because they had so few people working on the game. Since the Mann Co. store generated enough profits to reconstruct the team it's easier for them to do it.
Wait a sec.
Hold on.
I'm slow, but is it true the Festive crate weapons will NEVER be found/ craftable after christmas?
SAY IT AIN'T SO
valve didn't ruin TF2 they just fucked up the late 60s james bond spy theme to hell and back and continually release great community weapons that have really shit stats and generally have animations that really don't work with the model, and have no kill icons
I actually have 2 problems with TF2 right now:
-Vintage
-Scouts
I'm ok with unusual even trough the only way to get the is trading 20 hats or buying a key and 5% of getting one
And about the store, I think it's fine since valve gave us free updates for 3 years

They will be added to the store next week or in two weeks and will be craftable and droppable when they are.
Notice how almost all the high polycount shit is form the community?
And here was me thinking that the Direct Hit was one of the worst contenders!
They will be added to the store next week or in two weeks and will be craftable and droppable when they are.
Question; how do you know this?
Everybody who's read the forum during the update knows that, Robin said it in an email.
Question; how do you know this?
He doesn't, no one can predict what Valve is going to do
[editline]Edit:[/editline]
Goddamn ninjas :argh:
But really, I bet Valve is going to do something else about it
The "Buying" stuff seems unnecessary, It was good as it was.
Everybody who's read the forum during the update knows that, Robin said it in an email.
And Valve troll me once again.
I am certain that they will never make people pay for weapons that cannot be obtained for free.
But that's also a bad thing. Why oh why don't they just make them droppable/craftable?
Every item in the store is droppable and craftable (except for the tools)
If its not in the store, it won't drop or be craftable. If it is, it will.
The only exception might be the candy cane.
I still want some ingame currency, like I can sell my weapons for 1/3 the price it is on store and get points to buy other shit
Everything is good in their update, except.
BONUS SET
It's just something unbalanced, seriously, the Spy cannot be hear, the Scout is powerfull, the Sniper can't be killed by a headshot and in a duel, he'll kill you before by bodyshooting you if you have the reflex to aim the head.
For me, the kind of "bonus set" ruins the game and are only for kind of new players... The Croc-o-style is the perfect example, no headshot, only for bodyshotters... I really hate thoose... :saddowns:

Iron Curtain doesn't count, as its only a reskin

I've seen these arguments many times and what people seem to not understand is that it enforces a playstyle. One that is very easy to counter.
Edit: At least, the old sets were, I'm not too sure about the new ones.
Iron Curtain doesn't count, as its only a reskin
Reskins don't count, no. I'm talking about gameplay-changing items, of course.
