If they're going to make ridiculous recipes that take a lot of time and effort to track down, in an attempt to make these items rare and to also cut down on the massive amounts of metal floating around...why don't they just make weapons marketable? Oh. Right. Does anyone even BUY this shit?! Holy shit.
Yes, the phlog was on the top list of purchases quite often [sp]fuck you, gigazelle[/sp] edit: [sp]in a good way[/sp]
Does anyone even BUY this shit?!
According to stats.tf page, 23,091 Phlogs have been purchased from the store.
I'm not surprised that the Phlog was the highest sold weapon, really. It was released in a time when Pyros stock flamethrower was UP, Backburner was more of a stock replacement, Degreaser + Axetinguisher was the most reliable way to kill people then...etc. Phlog was a breath of fresh air for those dark times for all Pyro players.
didn't it also not have a crafting recipe and didn't drop at the time of its release, so the only way to get it was to rely on tokens, or the store?
didn't it also not have a crafting recipe and didn't drop at the time of its release, so the only way to get it was to rely on tokens, or the store?
I think a lot of them sold because when it first came out, it was on sale, and included a lot of hats and the Pomson as well. I think it was Brainiac + bubble pipe + Moonman + Pomson + phlog + Eureka effect for like $20 or $30. I bet that is where a lot of the Phlog sales came from.
it was because of the free crits.
it was because of the free crits.
That too. Like I said before, it was released during a time where Valve did nothing but non stop tweaks to Pyro for a period of two years. If a Pyro wanted something other than Backburner to do sole flame damage, he would want a Phlogistinator. Ever since they upped the 10% damage nerf from 2010 in the Pyromania update, I feel that all's right in the world. That just made Pyro that much harder to play, and when the 10% damage came back...Pyro players that played with those "shackles" on for so long sometimes became that much more skilled because of it.
My guess? Crate 30 items (Fish, Machina, Kritz, Caber, Gunslinger)?
but do collector's items even track kills? If not they aren't even worth it

Have any Collector items shown up yet?
it was because of the free crits.
? nothing changed. they decreased dmg by 10% (which is unnoticeable during crit time) the taunt shield was lowered a bit (which doesn't really matter either) it's still the "free crits" you're talking about
According to stats.tf page, 23,091 Phlogs have been purchased from the store.
Man imagine if "Collector's" was a quality for items bought from the store. I'm sure tons of people would go and buy it again, blowing that number out of proportion.
Aww yisss more good news I plan on working towards a collector's item now just for the hell of it. EDIT:
they decreased dmg by 10% (which is unnoticeable during crit time)
Actually, they didn't. Stock got +10%, they needed to put -10% in the phlog's stats to compensate.
I know this isn't a weapon fixing megathread, but during the Phlog crit taunt, I think he should have a little force field around him for a brief period, to let players KNOW he takes 70% less damage or whatever that is.
look it withthe eyes of someone new to the game, or new to the character. being able to pump crits, even if they are not really that effective or that easy to get looks and feels like a huge boost. its the same reason with most newcomers pick the soda popper over the other scatterguns, or even the backburner. out of the context that experience provides you as a veteran, "100% crits" sounds like a rad deal. and its only $10.
its the same reason with most newcomers pick the soda popper over the other scatterguns, or even the backburner.
To be fair, the soda popper is actually a good weapon, just a broken one. And backburner is also a good weapon, just not as good as the degreaser. It's still better than stock.
i own 50 mantreads, like 40 jarates and 100~ milks any of those have a collector version?
When collector's items become common, they'll make a new set. 200 collector's Ullapool Cabers = Unusual Caber with random effect And it will only cost a paltry 4000 cabers!
So wait, 200 items? Now lets analyze that a bit. Does that mean now people will focus in getting in a "Collector" quality of that weapon instead of creating metal? Theories, I need them!
pretty much nothing will make metal value go up or at least nothing Valve will do
well making keys craftable for a week with metal would get rid of a lot of it
that would destroy key prices instantly. and the whole economy with it. [sp]crafting bulks of stuff into something isnt the answer[/sp].
well making keys craftable for a week with metal would get rid of a lot of it
That would be the stupidest thing Valve could do.
that would destroy key prices instantly. and the whole economy with it. [sp]crafting bulks of stuff into something isnt the answer[/sp].
theyd only be craftable a short time, it would be able to make a dent in the huge supply of metal, key rpices would finally fall back to 2.33 range(even though the craft recipe woul dbe at least 3 ref)
Self-Made keys have turned into normal keys, but they didn't become tradable :x
To be fair, the soda popper is actually a good weapon, just a broken one. And backburner is also a good weapon, just not as good as the degreaser. It's still better than stock.
Not for a Pyro who airblasts a lot.
So, has anyone been insane enough to apply the collectible-ifier tool to a s. caber yet? If not, I need to get one of those sets for science.
