Doesn't matter how much I practice, I will never be able to shoot people in the air. I pop them up, then shoot them where they are landing.
Or pop them up and shotgun to the face.
Great videos, though I'd dispute the viability of the Battalion's Backup -snip-. The rest I agree with and these videos are great for Soldier players.
That was really good, but I disagree with training maps and the "never use gunboats ever"
Did you watch part 3?
Did you watch part 3?
He probably didn't see the loose ends yet. I made the same mistake seeing your patterns in the videos and it wasn't until the end of part 3 did I notice you revised your decision.
You might want to redo the end of part 1, it refers to maps that are made relatively outdated due to the training map. Fantastic tutorials, I actually learned a bit. Do more for other classes, especially the scout, sniper, and demoman.
I disagree about the black box, it has some uses for the "lone wolf"(Not going to be healed) soldier, but overall it's a pretty good video.
This.I only air-shoted as a Demoman once, and god dammit i felt so good for doing it.
For some reason I'm alot better at landing direct hits with the Demo than I am with Soldier.
For some reason I'm alot better at landing direct hits with the Demo than I am with Soldier.
Direct hits are one thing, knocking people into the air and then pot shotting them is another thing entirely.
Well but I'm still better at that with Demoman than I am with Soldier, I really dunno why but it's true.
Ive played about 4x more Demoman than soldier, and find it easy to hit airshots with pipes. I find it harder to blast people up and then shoot them, but with soldier I find it easier to airshot. Dunno why. On an unrelated note, I convinced my foreign friend that the past tense of airshot was airshat, so he used that as the title to his vid :buddy:
Throwing in my two cents about the Soli/Demo discussion, I would say the easier one is simply the one you play more. I've played a lot of time as both Soldier and Demoman and I don't think either of the classes have it harder than the other in terms of aerials.

i fucking love mge mod. you can find a lot of top tier players there, learn their tricks, and see how they've managed to counter yours. yeah you'll probably get wrecked, but at least you can still learn a lot from the experience
Good vid, here's hoping they ban gunboats so I don't have to feel so gay playing with them next season.
I'm going to say that Demo is harder when it comes to air-shots, because you have to account for the curve of the pipe as well as all the usual stuff.
The arc really isn't even a factor unless you're shooting at long range. At close range, it isn't noticeable and at medium range, it usually is noticeable but not to enough of an extent to require different aiming specifications.
Man, I just found some 3D glasses. I was hoping it really was 3D
Helped me a lot.
Love your videos, the first one is what convinced me to start rolling Solider more. I'm glad I did, It's a fun class once you learn to start doing more then just spamming rockets in the enemies' general direction. As for Tank Buster Solider, I find it quite useful in lower level 24-man pub games IMHO. Medics are a rare sight making the healing all the more useful. Most pub players are not good dodgers making the one less rocket not as crippling and the Bat. Backup is great for pushing past chokepoints that are filled with Demospam. All that said, Once you run into an opponent that knows what he's doing, then I agree that the good old RL/Shotgun combo is still the best choice.
I have to disagree about the whole Box and Backup not mixing well. One encourages taking hits and the other lets you shrug those hits off, they could mix better though. The bonus is worthless, and with you I agree on that. I find the Backup slightly better than the banner because it is easier to receive damage than it is to deal it, and the effect of the backup is arguably slightly more useful (nullifying crits, hell yeah) than the banner. I mix up all three secondaries often. Then again, I am not big on 6v6, so what kind of authority am I. :v:
I played a couple maps in my own private server to practice rocket jumping, and I have recently found out that I get unbearable lag in games. When I was doing jump_adventure, I got over 150 FPS, but everytime I rocket jumped, I would float in place for a second, and then find myself already crashing to the ground. I opened up Dustbowl, and it's the same thing. Good FPS, 1 ping, but huge, HUGE lag. Is anyone else getting this?
God damnit I always watch these then I start up TF2 because I suddenly feel empowered as soldier for whatever reason then I realize I still suck and ragequit.
I find it really easy to land the second airshot as demo and the exact opposite as soldier
I find it really easy to land the second airshot as demo and the exact opposite as soldier
the pipes fall to gravity, and iirc at a bit faster than the player's fall speed, whereas sollys have to really accurately predict their trajectory, etc.
God damnit I always watch these then I start up TF2 because I suddenly feel empowered as any class in the game for whatever reason then I realize I still suck, ragequit, and stop playing for months.
Holy shit, you are on facepunch. I had no idea.
Show gameplay in thirdperson so you can see my unusual
The point of the third person was actually just to show that I was wearing the gunboats since I have my HP turned off on my film HUD. The unusual was just a bonus.
This is great, but no matter how hard I try, I can't get airshots. Heck, I can almost never bounce people up in the first place.
I don't always play as Soldier, but when i do, this video has helped me. Thank you my friend.
This is great, but no matter how hard I try, I can't get airshots. Heck, I can almost never bounce people up in the first place.
Getting the hang of bouncing is quite tough, but when you learn to do it, it's so satisfying. I made a lot of people die from fall damage :smug: [editline]15th December 2010[/editline] I'm already quite good at Soldier, too. The only thing I'm having trouble with is aerials and air-shots.
