Gonna go ahead and agree with the Polycount explanation, seems the most logical at this given time.
Have we forgotten that we're on the eve of the Engineer Update?
It looks more like it's a pre-made set of attributes to make adding new ones in-game easier.
Maybe they are making a weapon that changes attributes on death? So it has random tiers and you never know how strong it is?
Honestly sounds to me like a new incarnation of the whole 'random stats' thing. A tier 2 penalty would also have a tier 2 bonus, perhaps.
maybe valve is trolling us like they did with the MMO crap?
I GOT ME TIER 11 LEVEL 270 PVP GEAR NYUCKA :v:
maybe valve is trolling us like they did with the MMO crap?
I doubt it, it's all well done unlike the MMO stuff which was basic "HERP DERP RAT = ENEMY"
MAYBE AUSTRALIUM, THE WORLD'S ONLY TRANSFORMATIVE ELEMENT, CHANGES YOUR WEAPONS' STATS WHEN YOU CARRY lT IN THE NEW AUSTRALIUM GAMEMODE!!
MAYBE AUSTRALIUM, THE WORLD'S ONLY TRANSFORMATIVE ELEMENT, CHANGES YOUR WEAPONS' STATS WHEN YOU CARRY lT IN THE NEW AUSTRALIUM GAMEMODE!!
That...that's actually plausible. :v:
If it upgrades your weapons, i hope it will only affect in a new gamemode. If they add it to the real game, it's going to destroy the gameplay so bad.
Could be more tf2 is now an mmorpg trolling on valves behalf.
Tier 5 Projectile Speed Decrease on Needle/Bluts Tier 5 Projectile Range Increase on Needle/Bluts Wall of Pain.
Stop putting so much value into the Polycount items, they're just going to constitute another small community update some time in the future. Valve are not going to pick winners, write a huge long list of possible attributes, then balance and playtest those attributes in 2 weeks. Just not happening.

Go look in items/items_game.txt, scroll to the bottom, mystery solved.
That...that's actually plausible. :v:
That's plausible, and sounds actually good! Like there is a satchel full of australium in the middle of au_(???) and the first team who gets to it, and holds it for 3 minutes wins?! Also, the carrier can distribute australium to other australium fueled items like the kritzkrieg to make them more powerful... This might actually be kinda cool! xD

If you get killed you drop all your australium and your foes can pick it up for their collection.

If valve ever release an Australium model, we, the good people of facepunch, will make a gamemode. A gamemode that will be so great, valve will HAVE TO accept it! We could do this though. If we had enough scripters, and modelers from the Emporium, and Mappers... we could do this, right?
Somehow I think its related to a more competitive side of tf2.
Could be more tf2 is now an mmorpg trolling on valves behalf.
Putting that much code in the game just for a joke would just be stupid. It's okay with a few small lines, but a thousand or more lines?
Tier 5 Projectile Speed Decrease on Needle/Bluts Tier 5 Projectile Range Increase on Needle/Bluts Wall of Pain.
Like the old TFC nailgun! My guess is that australium will simply be a random drop and you can use it to upgrade weapons, the more australium you use to upgrade the better the stats you can choose like 1au = +5% firerate, 2au = +10% firerate and so on, also you can only upgrade a weapon once to prevent players from doing overpowered Valve-like weapons.

The only problem is that it might negate the new weapons. (Upgrade for rocket launcher:what's the most obvious thing?)

Hoping it has something to do with levels. Level 100 Cloak and Dagger :ohdear:
If they can keep it balanced, honestly, I would LOVE to see random stats/upgrading/customising weapons. It would add a whole lot of fun to the game, introduce new strategies and if balanced well, everybody would be able to create their own new playstyle. Also, by using these 'tiers', it would make stat-altered weapons very easy to be balanced. If released to the community, Valve would very soon hear about stat combinations that may be a tad too powerful or too weak. When it comes to this, they could simply change the 'tiers' of the weapon to suit. This would be depending on how it's all implemented, of course.
