Ok it looks very clear that there will be some sort of Life Extender Machine in the game.
1) He specifically states to give the engineer the[B] BLUEPRINTS [/B]to the device.
2) We see the Booklet containing the [B]BLUEPRINTS[/B] in the engi's hand along with a weapon booklet
3) He says "do not build it", it's so obvious that he is going to.
Here's something you can build; a not-dying machine!
