All melee weapons have the same crit chance, except those that have no random critical hits. The shovel just seems like it has a higher crit chance because of the amount of damage a Soldier does, which directly affects his crit chance with all weapons.

If you get dominated a lot in a server by one or a few guys, try to abuse their knowledge. Let's say you go Spy and you get dominated by a Pyro. Take notice of HOW he's dominating you and what tactics he use against you. This has learned me a lot.

Revolver, side stab, stair stab...
Also, try to dominate at least 3 people without dying.
Start out with the one with the coolest hats, trust me it will be useful in the long run.
