Here's an interesting point about it:
The blast radius is smaller, making juggling much harder, therefore making own mini-crit hits harder to execute.
Thats the point of REPLACEMENTS. they take away strengths on one area and put strengths in another, added with a new range of tactics the replacement brings while not affecting the core "personality" of the class. (for example, Scout and Sniper are assholes, their replacement weapons make them more asshole-ey)
Fair point.
I think this also SEVERELY reduces Rocket Jump distance.
It'll probably be faster and further but increases health lost.
There isn't too much skill then if it's moving that fast.
70% less splash damage.
That speed is great for sharpshooting, but how much ammo is it going to hold and how fast will reload be? Its going to be a good weapon for some people. But it is clearly designed to combat the Demo's new weapons (duhhhh) with his damage resistance. So now the war will get even more intense.
Doesn't it also have a scope?
Doesn't it also have a scope?
Probably just for looks, most likely not functional.
It'll probably be faster and further but increases health lost.
if there's reduced splash damage, it might mean a lot more energy is sending you upwards, or it could mean that it doesn't launch you up very high at all
This is really cool, now. Still like the sword a lot more.
Steam forums think the opposite.
Cool misleading title.
Cool misleading title.
Did you really expect it to be a video of the actual thing?
I can imagine if the scope was functional. When you will play sniper next time, run to the middle of the battlefields, turn on your scope and imagine you are a soldier trying to shoot rockets.
Did you really expect it to be a video of the actual thing?
Why would he not? It's exactly what the title says.
My speculations about the DIRECT HIT gameplay mechanics:
-Explosion will be just as strong, all classes would fly up into the air the same height you would expect.
-Timing will be easier due to faster rockets.
-Missing a target is more of a penalty now since there is not as much splash damage area.
-Your (splash damage) to (rocket ammo count) ratio is not as high as the normal launcher so you wont kill as much when its one against many. So expect less medics to Kritz/Uber you when wielding the precision instrument.
-Extra damage means an easier time taking out Singular Engineer constructs and fighting one on one. EG: One sentry/Pyro "expect the pyros to screw up their timing majorly when aiming at their legs"..
My 2 cents.
Here's an interesting point about it:

Not really, most juggles are direct hits anyway.
Did you really expect it to be a video of the actual thing?
I did, just a bit sceptically.
I wonder what the clip size, reload time and rate of fire will be.
I don't think the reload time will be that fast though.
I wonder what the clip size, reload time and rate of fire will be.
Exactly the SAME
uhh...
[editline]13:37[/editline]
Splash AREA is reduced, damage and speed of rocket are increased.
Apart from that NOTHING CHANGES
absolute hell for engineers.
I wonder if Valve have taken this into account? The increase in damage for direct hits may only be for other players, not buildings. That's what the update page looks like it's saying.
So does this mean the same rocket jumping, but with less damage to yourself I wonder, since the splash is reduced?
Rockets generates inside this thing so it will fire infinitive rockets without reload.
Holy shit
At that rate the thing might need toning down a tad.
I wonder if this will make you rocket jump higher or lower....
God, it will suck to be pyro now when all soldiers will use that weapon. R.I.P. Compression Blast.
Why does he fucking reload after EVERY shot. So annoying.
from the update page: "the Direct Hit has a 70% smaller blast radius than a traditional rocket launcher. But the rockets that come out of this thing move fast and hit hard: 80% faster and with 25% more destructive force. Best of all, for you real sharpshooters, the Direct Hit guarantees mini-crits on airborne targets."
nowhere does it say blast damage is reduced. stop making crap up. given the information we have been provided, one can assume that rocket jumping will still be possible, and possibly even more powerful at the cost of a greater amount of life lost. the typical rocket jump explosion occurs at an extremely close range to the soldier, at or under 30% of maximum blast radius.
So does this mean the same rocket jumping, but with less damage to yourself I wonder, since the splash is reduced?
Damage would be higher, 25% so. Only the splash radius was reduced.
The annoying part here is that it was reduced to half the height of a crouch jump, so RJs will need to be timed just right in order to work.
Yay, more surf map rocket spam...
