They're tiny little white earphones that are attached to nothing. I don't see anything theme-breaking, especially in an alternate reality where automatic sentry guns, teleporters, and mediguns exist.
I think it's great that Valve made them; gives a little celebratory bonus to people who picked up TF2 for their Mac early on. It's a pretty big deal for Macs to have one of the greatest online multiplayer games of all time.
And besides, I love the little musical note particle effects. :buddy: It's certainly one of the more animated and visually interesting wearables.
