Couldn't we combine 2 themes if we wanted to? For example the electric one and the garage one. You could have things like electric batons made out of scrap metal, and powered by a jar of batteries.

Only one theme will win. That could easily fall under either theme, they're meant to be quite open. A shotgun with a battery taped to the side would probably pass. (please don't make that even for a joke)

Personally I'll actually say I don't like the "electrical" theme idea.
I just don't see how electricity is a wide theme that can easily be made to fit all characters...

If it's electrical powered, it's allowed in. More electrically powered the better.
And half the fun is thinking of how to tie the theme with a character like the heavy.
I'd imagine a huge generator stuck to the side of the minigun or such.

Honestly, I don't think that theme is a lot better than the Milkman set.
Sure you can make the items fit the theme, but you can't make the theme fit the characters.

You're making the characters fit the theme, not the other way around.
It is not how themes should be.
The thing about electrical weapons is everything is going to have strap on batteries and eventually batteries would be overused, ie. powerjack, razorback, medigun thing from polycount...
it'll be overused. Pirate theme, personally, would work better because it was a culture, and a lot of things can be used from it, not just electricity. Now don't rate me dumb, but i think the electric theme would not work simply because of overuse, accusations of plagiarism (everything will fucking have batteries), and frankly, kinda boring.
Pirates theme, however, on the other hand, could be hard to implement, needing new maps to make sense, ruining the pyro's class (with seas of water) and a lot of pirate stuff is actually made up. So it's still up for discussion, i just wanted to post some points i had floating around in my mind.

No but really, I agree. The electrical theme just sounds like making normal weapons. I was hoping for something a little more interesting like Western or Superheroes. Dr. Octopus Arms for the Medic would be cooler than a shovel with a battery on it.

On the other hand a weapon like [url=http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c393/mrdelish_/finalblue.jpg]this[/url] will be much more well recieved.
It's just open-ended, that's all. If you want to make normal weapons but with a tiny electric twist that's up to you.
And remember, this theme isn't final. It's just my personal favourite, the vote will tell all. You can still add your own theme ideas to the poll.

I just don't think that it's easy to be creative with that theme.
If you pick a theme people won't be completely sure how it fits with the characters, you are going to get a lot of things that barely fit the theme.
What about Winter themed cosmetics and steampunk/electrically themed weaponry?

How about we just make this a regular event and do a new theme every month? As a preliminary competition, we could do a Winter Pack and have the deadline be two weeks from now, just before Christmas. I think that's plenty of time for everyone to pump out one or two items.
The goal would not be to get our items in the game, but expose people to the Emporium and get them interested in modding. It would also make these threads vastly more interesting.
