it required the game to render every model twice and most computers couldn't handle that...

Electrical guns isn't a theme that can be good for all characters and winter themed items would only make sense on the few winter maps there are, while historic weapons can be applied to all the classes; Sniper could have winchester, spy could have peacemaker, old minigun, and similar items.

There are 3 winter maps, there are 18 desert maps. I don't see how a winter theme is appropriate in a western themed game. Maybe there could be desert themed weapons?
