Anybody here use XSI Mod tool? Any good tutorials for that? I've perused YouTube and Google but haven't found anything.

You can find links to the other 2 there. Apparently Valve are keeping the 3rd one a mystery atm.
Keeping it relevant to modding: anyone else think the hats are terrible? I was never a stickler for a strict art style, but these new hats looks absurd. Like Valve knows they don't even have to spend five minutes on us anymore.
I actually like the hat. Also, I have a
GENIUS IDEA!
To make the hat different/special/less gaudy, change out the treasure chest for a feather. A small feather for level one, a large feather for two, and a plume for level three.
Nah, Level 3 should have the entire bird.

That would work quite better, then the feathers could be painted.
I shudder to imagine painted gold
Hey, does anyone have an alternate link/backup/whathaveyou for Bazerand's Scarred Heavy face from way back when?
I feel a sudden urge to cut up my Heavy, the old download link is dead, and no search engine I check seems to bring up any replacement for it.
Over christmas we should have a mod making challenge or something, like "make a new food item for the Heavy" or "make an extreme version of a gun from WW2" or "model a new hat for mister royzo to wear in the poster"
that'd liven the emporium up
I'm disappointed that the Emporium has never had any real events like that. Why can't everyone band together and do a theme pack like Royzo did with the Island Update? We could probably produce around 20-30 items within a couple of weeks.
TF2Maps did that Swamp Prop Pack and they're all getting a special badge for it. Just something to consider.
I'm up for it if you guys want to do a themed item pack and/or contest.
I'm in. It'll need to start sometime after the 20th though, I think everyone should be on break by then, right?
I'm in... oh wait.
Alright, so with some help from Rythyrix I've investigated, implemented, and tweaked that old VMT-based method for fixing the player model UberCharge textures murphy posted several emporiums ago. It looks a little different from my current invuln texture fix mod, but I tested it in-game and I think it looks great. This method is much, MUCH better than the one I've been using because it foregos using separate textures for invuln altogether and just overlays the blue/red coloring onto the regular player textures.
Here's a preview:
[IMG_thumb]http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/2803/heavyinvulntestrednew.png[/IMG_thumb][IMG_thumb]http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/8363/heavyinvulntestbluenew.png[/IMG_thumb]
[IMG_thumb]http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/2763/heavyinvulntestredold.png[/IMG_thumb][IMG_thumb]http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/6528/heavyinvulntestblueold.png[/IMG_thumb]
The top ones are the VMT method and the bottom ones are the current method. While they lose a bit of glare and blue loses the purple skin, I think it looks fine. It's also technically more accurate to what the colors should be considering the overlay is the same texture used on weapons when they go invuln.
My hope is that since this method uses mostly VMTs and actually lowers the amount of textures loaded by the game compared to the existing in-game method, Valve will be more prone to accepting this one. Not only is it a fix, but it's also a performance upgrade!

I feel I have a lot to share for the WW2 contest. A melee weapon that is a rifle with a bayonet, and right-click makes clicking noises: a rocket launcher that looks like an assault rifle with a grenade launcher but works the same as the vanilla launcher, a broken rifle with a bayonet used as a club...
We should give these contests names. Like The Big Shaved Bear Picnic.
Hm but it DOES lose the purple arms.
To be honest, I think it's better - there's absolutely nowhere else in the game where the color purple is associated with BLU's color scheme, or at least none that I can think of. It's only on the un-updated beta invuln textures, which is what I used as a base when I was making the invuln overlay color for the blue textures, so that's why mine have a purple-ish tint, namely on the skin.
Maybe a priority should be the classes that didn't get poly count items? Not many exciting unlocks for the medic, demo, and heavy. Maybe a contest geared toward that?
my ideas:
heavy: bioshock themed would be awesome (big daddy) use that drill as an unlock and add a dive helmet, maybe a steam punk minigun.
demo: Pirate, what else really? pirate hat with a parrot, hand lit cannon balls, swashbuckler sword
medic: no idea for theme, but maybe a chainsaw for melee, an area of effect medi gun with no specials, maybe a poison dart gun that has bleed-like effects.
Absolutely no soldier stuff then!
I wonder why nobody has made hulk-esque reskins for all the uber textures?
Here's the new invuln set if you guys wanna test it, by the way: http://www.mediafire.com/?c4mpt4t4qt4usi9
Includes IdleTard's fixed Gunslinger invuln model but with the new VMT method tacked on. Tell me how it all looks and works in-game. Aside from Engineer's face and Pyro's texture, this should also work with most custom player textures, too - no more mountains of PMs telling me to update/include x Demoman emblem!

A huge item pack devoted to giving some much-needed love to some of the less updated classes would be an awesome Emporium project.

I'm all for this idea.
We should try to get a Facepunch pack much like how Polycount got a Pack.
If you're all doing that crap i guess i can come up with names, stats or descriptions for your items.

The MEDIC update
Featuring MEDIC weapons
MEDIC hats
MEDIC misc
I'd try to make items...but i don't know where to start.
If you're going to do pack i suggest you pick a theme and stick to it.
For example, "Mad Scientist" with weapons that have unnecessary amounts of wire, live electric bits(in glass tubes), more tape that at a VHS convention and probably would make any health and safety nut have a heart attack on the spot.
Or perhaps "old timey" as a theme.
My point is that if you ARE going to make a pack i suggest you all work to something similar.
That was the idea yes. I suppose we'll discuss it probably once Mister Royzo gets online.
Tf2 is set in 1969, so heavy should have cold war pack.

you mean guns that never actually fire although you come very close to doing so?

Secondary is the "Football" (can only be used once)
Melee is the monthly ration of bread for Heavy's village.

I approve.
