Finished texturing the Magnet Gun. I'm open to suggestions on the battery logo as it's shit and I can't think of anything better. It's called 'Nukacell' because it's a fission battery. I might just remove it altogether. Same for the tape over the contact. I might just give it a smooth rubbery look instead.

...and here's a model viewer pose. It seems the c_pistol isn't used so I can't show any ingame action shots. It has no phong/rimlight shading yet so looks dark and out of place. I'm also going to add jiggle bones to the wires.

Jesus christ that looks outstanding.

That dropdown nor the menu exists. AT ALL.

untextured, the things you see sticking out are planned on being textured as the fur you see all along the seams.

Is it me, or does the absence of phongs make it look like the magnet gun was photoshopped onto Engie's hand?

It would if you hadn't hidden it and the tools and menu's have changed since 2008, give it a rest ok.
Gimme a moment and I'll show you how to reset your toolbars.
Goto display > UI elements > Status line or alternatively just enable all UI elements, that's what I've always done.

Cool, now I could use the Soft Edges tool.
But it doesn't soften edges, what it does is make the shadow prettier.

Quick! Hide the model!! It's too good for Valve!

That's what soften edges does. :downs:
What were you expecting, it to magically make something as smooth as ice?
If so, abuse the smoothing option.

I hope valve will make nearby metal weapons and metal be drawn towards the engie when he uses it. That would be an awesome weapon and the drawback would obviously be no pistol.
Here's another thing I probably wouldn't be able to get to show in the engine, with AO baked textures(program preview)

polycount and wireframe please.
Very good, but maybe too detaled for TF2, isn't it ?
Too detailed in too many polys or doesn't fit the TF2 style?
Yeah, the pistol grip looks too modern.
I would suggest doing something like the Wrangler
I guess the grip does look a bit to modern but I wanted to give it a rubbery look since it's an electrical based weapon. I didn't think something like wood would've worked out. Changing large parts of the model now will be problematic but I could probably change the texture to look more wood like in some areas.
i'm actually afraid to know how many polies that thing has
[editline]17th December 2010[/editline]
btw

its a fusion reactor powered plasma gauntlet that lets you electrocute foes from afar with your VERY FINGERTIPS PRAISE DA LAWD

Is it a condom
-snip double post-
Is it a condom
It's a cookie flavoured christmas condom
Too bad that magnet pistol isn't a Wrangler replacement. But I guess a control stick just wouldn't have fit the design.

._. really?
But on all those pictures I see, the edges are all round and stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think i'll try blender, any good tutorials for blender?
That looks sweet Rozzy, although you could save a few polygons by removing the really really tiny bevel thing you have on the magnet itself
I can't help but feel something is missing(besides talent)
Anyone has any suggestions?

That handle is far too detailed for TF2. Scrap that little grip texture you've got going on there.
The rest of the model looks great though.

...how would this be useful in any way at all? you'd be sacrificing your main defensive weapon in exchange for not having to walk 5 seconds to pick up metal. or y'know, just standing by your dispenser.
I am depress from the lack of comments on my hat :(

Add some holly somewhere. You could also smooth out the white rim some more

Jesus fucking Christ, the polycount's almost double of what most hats have.

Divide it in two. Model viewer doubles it.

I now have no reason to continue modeling. Goodbye, cruel world!
