• MAJOR TF2 update for 10/29/13 (Fifth Annual Scream Fortress)

There are lots of servers running earlier halloween maps, and even more ignoring the whole thing.
monoculus has a hitbox, so you can jump on top of him. I jumped across one from the hightower to the enemy's upper spawn by using him as a platform.

I dunno about you guys but I'm playing on mostly full moon server mode enabled servers from now on :v: ..if they didn't remove that.

So is there an advantage to having a completely filled spellbook over a magazine?
So is there an advantage to having a completely filled spellbook over a magazine?
The fancy spell book actually appears on your class as opposed to the magazine which isn't even seen.
Drown me in cardboard if you wish, but I think this batch of halloween items was pretty much perfectly implemented. They made it perfectly clear beforehand that all items with the tag would be restricted, which meant that a) The restrictions didn't come as a disappointment to the item makers once the update went live. b) Even the item makers that still care about the TF2 esthetic could let their imaginations run wild. c) By associating the restriction with the tag rather than making case-by-case judgements, they avoided the whole 'why is that guys unfitting item not restricted while my totally fitting one is' mess. They then used the creative freedom allowed by the holiday restriction to implement a ridiculous amount of new items with a ridiculous breadth of imagination, giving players a whole lot of variety and item makers a whole lot of selfmades. I agree that there are a bunch of unrestricted existing items that are more unfitting than some of the items added now, but I'd say that's a problem with the updates that added those, not with this one. Of course, I'm biased on account of being really relieved I won't have to find 100+ new reskin mods.
There is one thing that would have been better imo and that's a separate Halloween "I don't want this restricted" tag. Then Valve can judge it like they would any other item. If it's 2spooky, well you fucked up and now they won't consider your item. If it fits, they'll let it in normally.
Does anyone know how I can fix none of the new particles showing?
Does anyone know how I can fix none of the new particles showing?
in half-seriousness, don't use spells when cloaked with spy
"You have picked up the haunted halloween gift." "THE HAUNTED HALLOWEEN GIFT HAS DISAPPEARED." Vaaalve... They're about to launch an operating system. They really need to start crossing the "i"s and dotting the "t"s.
so with Spooky crates there's no chance at unboxing an unusual?
I still don't like how Halloween Gifts aren't tradable
Just stopping in to spread some news (or what I hope is), if you're having problems with immense crashing, turn all of your stuff up to the highest quality in video in options, it stops the crashing for some weird reason.
if you are using custom first person animation mods, the weapon animations will fuck up.
Any possible clue on how to fix that ? I've never created a single thing for TF2, and I don't like Heavy's vanilla animations (the way he throw his arms forward just looks wrong) (Probably not the best place to ask this kind of question)
I like the new spells... but would really like to be able to enable them on maps other than Hightower. Hightower was already the king of deadlocks right at the end, but with pretty much every spell being mass-damage-at-area, fling-everyone-from-area-while-doing-some-damage, or move-self-to-area(to-do-mass-damage-and-enemy-flinging-manually) nobody's going anywhere if the teams aren't ludicrously unbalanced.
Is there any notification or anything for a gift spawning? I just happen to stumble on them.
so with Spooky crates there's no chance at unboxing an unusual?
I unboxed a unusual on my 2nd or 3rd unbox on a spooky crate so yes there is a low chance (always the same unless were very lucky).

I use some config so my graphical options in-game are all pretty middling, maxed them all out and skellingtons aren't crashing me anymore
Oh damn, it seems like everyone likes that teleport spell...COUGHCOUGHSPYWATCH. Please.
Questions: If I apply a Halloween paint to a hat and trade it to an alt before the event ends, will the paint remain on the hat if I trade it back after Scream Fortress is over? (like how you save paint spells). #2: If you apply the paint before Halloween, so that it's 'permanent' (or close enough too), is it wiped come 2013's "Halloween spell removal" process? Googled around and can't seem to find a definitive answer. Would prefer to keep my Putrescent Filamental after Scream Fortress 2013.
Additional notes were distributed from the 10/30/13 update that were originally missing from sources (sources being HLDS and the TF2 site). They include:
- Updated the Vaccinator to use the reload key to cycle through resist types
So much for the middle-click.
better this way tbh
all and all. This update could've used some more to it, alot more. I'm still hyped up for magic spell spam and hellish animation bugs (not you brain maggot) But it feels as if its missing quite a bit, and all the new items being restricted is heavily disappointing. I had also hoped for a boss (The voice lines even mention a 'skeleton king'). Spells only being re-used from last event also saddened me slightly, and the fact that the gift costume parts are untradable/uncraftable, which valve countered with 'transmogriphiers' or whatever. That damn thing took 1 pyro item and 1 heavy item and gave me two of the same pyro item. Also the lack of a new style of the gibus gave me a slightly blank face. It mainly just feels like this update could have had more to it, even with the spells'n the magic all over the place.
I had also hoped for a boss (The voice lines even mention a 'skeleton king')
The skeleton king is a boss though. However apparently he's bugged and doesn't appear a lot? I've seen him a few times though and he's a pain in the ass
The skeleton king is a boss though. However apparently he's bugged and doesn't appear a lot? I've seen him a few times though and he's a pain in the ass
I wish the Skeleton King was a lot more like the Horseless Headless Horsemann. Explicitly going out of his way to fuck up someone's day, having a ton of health and standing out so he's not boring and easy to ignore, also the map would need to be not-hightower otherwise it'd be impossible for him to catch people on the tower...or he'd need super jumping skeleton powers. If I ever die to the Skeleton King, he's typically dead before I even respawn. He's a very underwhelming boss, if you'd even consider him to be one.
The skeleton king is a boss though. However apparently he's bugged and doesn't appear a lot? I've seen him a few times though and he's a pain in the ass
If anything, he's more of a mini-boss. At least he drops something upon killing him though, so that's a plus.
