I got the only good Sniper hat, the Yellow Belt, for crafting 2 Stovepipes. ( I have a Demo Fro, I don't care for the Stovepipe ) I was really happy, due to the fact Jarate/Yellow Belt are the only reasons I like the Sniper. You have to be willing to take risks, though.
But I hate that you cant craft event hats. What am I supposed to do with this extra Gibus?
I got two random hats, and they are both the Preussian Pickelhaube.
At least the first drop probably doubled my medic playing rate, now he's my third most played class.

Well, Valve might as well let us use the extra Gibus for crafting, seeing as it has no other use.
I crafted my Pickelhaube and hatless Sniper into the Demoman's tophat. I'm a little disappointed since it looks almost exactly like the Gibus, but I can't really complain since I rarely play Medic and hatless hats suck.

1st One - Crafted my Pyro Beanie + Mirror and get a Tyrant's Helm (But I already had one)
2nd One - Crafted my Tyrant's Helm + Mining Light and got an Officer's Ushanka.
It's all luck at the end of the day and it's your choice. If you mess up then you only have yourself to blame, not a crafting system.
