The reason why people still call for medic is to increase their survivability All the items that give you health (except mediguns obviously) can't overheal you or give you ubers.
Except the powerjack and eyelander. (no uber though obviously)
In my experiences, most heavies care too much about getting their own kills to throw down a Sandvich for the poor doctor.
I always throw down a sammich for my little doctor :saddowns:
imo the medic is fine. except for the crossbow though. it's pretty siht, but still has it's uses. i only use it for the 4hp per second which is extremely worth it.
I play a lot medic, but not the (how it is called...) pocket medic, that stays behind the heavy all the time, I use to heal everyone. I prefer to uber a pyro than a heavy, cause sometimes is better a good pyro setting the entire enemy team on fire (what is really good) and destroying the buildings more fast, than a horrible heavy firing his gun to everywhere and missing all the shoots. My friends are always saying I'm a good medic cause I actually HEAL THE TEAM, and not just the heavy. But I agree with the op, when I'm alone, or just with a noob player that can't protect himself, I always find myself vs a soldier, and I can't do anything against him. The crossbow is just an useless weapon for direct combat, and the syringe gun sucks at long range, so I just try to run away from him, and get killed anyways because no one helps me, obviously when they all call for a medic, I heal them...I just want the team to help me too :saddowns: or atleast a good primary weapon to defend myself.
I really think you missed the point of the rant; He thinks that medics should have some sort of defense for themselves, and that they shouldn't have to rely on downs heavies to protect them.
You know, originally the Blutsauger did this quite well, assuming you weren't one of those idiot battle Medics.
Every class except spy and sniper can heal themselves. Pretty soon every class will be able to and medics will be ignored completely.
It's not only the medic, the scout has been raped of his main abilities also. x2 capture for soldier/demo with a weapon Speed buffs for soldier/demo/heavy Might as well give the spy a double jump. The balance in this game is dwindling slowly.

The class roles have been all but entirely destroyed.
I don't think the amputator needs a nerf to be honest, but the bonesaw should be buffed. They'd have to do it indirectly though, like give him +5% faster ubercharge rate at all times then just give the amputator -5%.
If you're a team player medic who heals everyone and sticks with the majority of the team, you alone can push the team to a pretty serious victory. Plus, if you get to know who's killing everyone and know who to uber amongst everyone, you can easily hit #1 on the score list, especially in arena mode. Sure there's the other classes that can heal in some ways, but they're all quite situational. The heavy's sandvitch is on a cooldown, the black box can only heal 45 HP as long as the solider doesn't hit himself in the process and the demoman only gains 15 HP per head and usually he lost most of his HP in the process of hacking away at people and needs to retreat. By sticking with the team and healing everyone who needs it without being a pocket medic all the time, you greatly increase your team's will to charge forward and retreat a lot less. You move with them, rather than having to have them trek back to that stationary level 1 dispenser. There's nothing broken with the medic. His only problem is the fact that we have far too many impatient players who just want to kill shit and not contribute anything to their team's victory. When you think about it, the medic got seriously buffed recently. A healing crossbow that heals half HP per hit? 5 HP per second with the set bonus? The amputator that not only heals everyone in range, but completely did away with any reason to use the regular bonesaw? Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they gave the medic a razorback at this point (primary replacement?) but it still wouldn't convince people to play him without having a friend in the server tell them to. The point still stands, people are just too impatient to be a medic and that's his only downfall.
The class roles have been all but entirely destroyed.
Why go scout to slip past enemy lines with speed, I can just charge n' tard all the way through [editline]15th January 2011[/editline]
If you're a team player medic who heals everyone and sticks with the majority of the team, you alone can push the team to a pretty serious victory.
Pretty much the only thing I ever do, as well as spam the mouse while ubering two heavies at once :v:
It seems to be a rule that when one team has a medic and the other doesn't, the team with the medic wins. [editline]15th January 2011[/editline] Teamplay generally tips the scales a lot. There's none present on an average public server where the entire team is full of assault or camping classes, but the medic class is all about teamplay. If there's a medic, there's teamplay. edit: I think that's also why on an average server you can steamroll an enemy if you get your team to do ridiculous crap like all heavies or all pyros. It's certainly not a balanced team, but it's a rudimentary form of teamplay.
Medic will and has always been the most important part of a team
I don't understand why a lot of players that goes to medic only ubers that one person threw out the game, while others are calling for medic. When i'm a medic i heal everyone that injure and critical, Especially the burn players. Doesn't matter which class either. Healing is healing.
I've been playing as medic a lot recently and I think the medic is a really vital part to the team. Whenever I've been against a team that has no medic it's always our win, the ubercharges are really important against sentries the demoman can't reach.
I reckon Medic could do with some more max HP. Like 25 or 50 more, to give him a bit of a (much-needed) buff.
Crossbow is completely useless. Only reason using it is for the set bonus.
Crossbow is completely useless. Only reason using it is for the set bonus.
pretty much the only reason i use it. I try not to battle medic so it dosen't affect me, but there has been times where having a neddle gun would of probably saved me from a scout or pyro
As a medic I mainly pocket with a friend who's a really good Soldier, but if there's anyone calling for medic I break off and heal them to full before going back to him. Pocketing is fine as long as you're still aware of the teammates around you.
In my experience, on a 16 vs. 16 slot server, a team with 3 medics has a pretty good chance of winning. Depending on the situation you can equip kritzkrieg or uber. But the most important part of being a medic is being able to constantly overheal the entire team. Yes that means spamming around with your medigun a lot. This increases the chances of your team getting kills A LOT. Staying alive as a medic is essential, so if you can't save a player don't worry, fall back. While you are healing keep an eye out for spies. Dispatch them with your ubersaw if you can and/or alert the team. Sometimes the rest of the players on the server is playing shit, I tend to stick with a decent heavy or soldier to be able to make a push, backed up by the rest of the shitty players. Just being able to follow this strategy, will make you one of the top ranking and most contributing members of the team. Medic is awesome, one of my favorite classes.
I find the crossbow pretty useful for taking out sentries when left unattended to. I do not understand why people complain about its healing abilities when it really shouldn't be used as the primary healing tool - the medigun and kritz does that job. And as people have mentioned, the team with the medic tends to win the game. You try to take down a heavily guarded sentry nest with the help of a jar of milk; just ain't going to work yo.

pyros are way too common, makes playing medic and spy hard as all hell.
It's true, nobody really plays Medic as much as they should. I find myself going Medic to help my team a lot, even though I wanted to play something else.
With the addition to the crossbow, I find the medic a bit more varied and fun (luckily). But I think you and I are quite the same.
pyros are way too common, makes playing medic and spy hard as all hell.
This,i have no idea why engineer and sniper have anti-spy weapons while we have no anti-pyro weapons(Dead Ringer does not work anymore)
I'll agree on the Amputator, mostly because now there's no reason to use the bonesaw at all. But I played Medic for two constant hours yesterday, I was at the top of the scoreboard all the time, without me using all those übers we wouldn't have pushed anything at all. My team thanked me a lot, which made me feel even more needed, and I couldn't help continuing. It ended up in me having twice the points of everyone else, and me being the most loved one at our team, and the most hated one at the other. He isn't underpowered, but dependant of his team more than anyone. Doesn't milk also extinguish flames?
Doesn't milk also extinguish flames?
But that's for Scout :ohdear:
But that's for Scout :ohdear:
But he didn't mean that engie and sniper were the ones who should have anti pyro weapons.
