all i can think of is TFC, GTA (3/vc/sa), killingfloor (the UT2k4 mod not the standalone) and super crate box's(it sounds retro i guess) flame throwers at the top of my head cant think of any torch sounds unless you count the random ambient torch sounds in games like quake or unreal if they have any
wouldnt some sort of static work? idunno, maybe something like the crowd from punchout or maybe some ocean static from an 8-bit game (i forget which one has it but i do remember playing some sort of surfing game where teh water had static)
Could you try using ut99's rocketlauncher sounds for the beggar? it might not be bad at all or is that not retro enough
I was thinking of doing NES noise for the flamethrowers, but I don't know if you guys would be okay with just noise. If that's not the case then I could do it really easily.
Fire Flower noises!
I'm going to use those for the flare guns.

Alright then, I'll probably just throw up some examples on Soundcloud then. I'll try some different approaches when I am conscious and willing to sit down and focus on audio.
I'm working on this. Something about this sounds a bit weird though:

It does a weird beeping sounds. I don't know, then.
It's an attempt to make "8-Bit" embers. Make the intro not so explosive and make those beeps more noisy instead of just being straight beeps.

Shouldn't that be the crit sound instead? The beeping would become an earsore pretty quickly if used on normal attacks.
Oh, I see what you're saying, I'll quiet those down a bit.
all I can imagine for the bison is PEW POW ZAP POWOWOWOWO you know like those dinky toys with bright red leds and awful canned speaker noise
I want a particle change- blocky embers like in Monaco would be cool.
I'm having weird issues with my sounds ending up being played terribly quiet in-game. Anyone know a solution for this? And I'm working on my sounds still! I do not have a dead mod!
I'm having weird issues with my sounds ending up being played terribly quiet in-game. Anyone know a solution for this? And I'm working on my sounds still! I do not have a dead mod!
Just increase the volume. Happened to me when making a couple of sound mods.
Just increase the volume. Happened to me when making a couple of sound mods.
I just end up terribly afraid of clipping at that point. I'm using a limiter on a lot of my sounds.
If you don't want any clipping, you'll have to edit one of the game_sounds located in the scripts folder in the .vpk. There you can edit the channel, volume and pitch to be at the levels you want them to be, some of the sounds are made so that they sound lower ingame through there. The game_sounds scripts are fairly smart, and you don't have to include the entire file if you want to just edit one sound. Just seclude it to just the sounds you want to edit, change the variables and place it in it's respective file in the custom folder.
I think I'm gonna have to skip the Flamethrowers for now seeing as all I can really make for Pyro is harsh noisy stuff. I don't really have a problem with that, because it's an excuse for me to hurry onto the flare guns! Woo! If you guys wanna help me find nice retro/cheesy flamethrower sounds, I'd seriously be super thankful.

http://dotbsp.com/wauterboi I've reorganized the VPK's: 1. The VPK's are now specific to the weapons they replace. They're no longer just "primaries", because I thought it would be nice to separate the swords, shields, grenade launchers, and so on from each other. 2. The generic explosions are now its own separate mod and is not paired together with the Rocket Launchers anymore. 3. Doom Pistol Sound release. 4. Grenade Launcher release. I'll be sure to reference back to this and do a little tidying up to make it fit with the sounds I'll be using.
