It's a fucking medieval weapon for a highly sophisticated Doctor who's personality is both based on the stereotype of professional German doctors as well as the gestapo. It has nothing to do with his german heritage, it has nothing to do with the 60's, it has nothing to do with the stereotype of doctors, it has nothing to do with Medic's frustrated nature, it has extremely little to do with his sadistic nature. [editline]5th January 2011[/editline] Please answer Lordgeorge's question before mine, because I have absolutely no fucking clue what so ever what would ever make you think it even fits Medic's personality slightly.
serious business
Now Samiam made some fair points and you didn't answer any of them. Instead you just go on about how "dumb" his opinion is, while he didn't do that. Don't be so immature about it.
I didn't do it because I found the reasons too strange and badly reasoned, but if it means so much to you:
So, first of all, the crossbow fires what looks like some sort of needle (judging from his reload animation). Needles = doctor. The whole weapon is something not at all related to being a doctor, nothing related to the 50's and 60's theme of TF2, and not related to his personality. Putting a small part that matches up with his personality does not make the weapon make sense on him. For the same reason giving Medic a flamethrower with medi-kits attached to it wouldn't be fitting medic's personality. The crossbow fits the Teutonic Knight medieval bollocks that they've attributed to the Medic in the new update. And this shit was bullshit that had nothing to do with the TF2 theme. It fit the new shitty theme Valve added, but it doesn't fit Medic in any way. It's decorated all red and white, fits the whole "Medic" thing. Same shit as the first argument, just because it has some pretty cosmetic medicine stuff to it doesn't make it fit medic.
[editline]5th January 2011[/editline]
Well since they added the sword and shield to the Demoman long ago it shouldn't really matter anymore whether a crossbow "fits" the time period or not in the first place. Plus, even if it doesn't fit with regular game modes it fits with the medieval one. Valve did say that the Polycount pack would be tied to the new game mode.
I never expected them to add something this retarded... or maybe I did, maybe I was just really hoping they wouldn't add something this insanely retarded.
Seems fair enough, except Medieval isn't shitty. :v: And for the first point I don't know but I'd say that a crossbow fits about as much as a syringe gun. And hell, it seems pretty sadistic to me. Especially when he heals allies by sending arrows into them with a crossbow.

Just saying, Swizzle's pack is starting to look better and better every day.

Especially when he heals allies by sending arrows into them with a crossbow.
I tend to get worked up about these things, and I'm arguing a lost cause when it comes to TF2's artstyle anyway... So let me put this as simple as possible: What stereotype Medic is based upon, does a crossbow fit into?
The Medic is like a sadistic mad scientist. The crossbow is a pretty sadistic weapon, especially when it's used to heal allies. I guess that's just me. v:v:v I don't disagree with you completely, but I don't think it's as bad as you seem to think. It's mostly there because of Medieval, obviously, but it doesn't completely ruin the Medic in my opinion.
It's retrofuturistic advanced technology, the kind of thing you'd see the scientists use in a 60's spy movie. You know, the kind of theme TF2 used to be based on before it added retarded knight stuff.
Well now here's your problem
Well now here's your problem
And like I said, I'm arguing a lost cause. For some reason I'm still convinced that items in TF2 should follow the theme that it used to be about, the theme that made me love this game in the first place. Even though I know it's been turned into some retarded clown party at the renaissance fair.
I really wish there was an sv_vanilla or something. Maybe even a few options: - No unlocks/hats whatsoever - Hats are ok - The basic unlocks (ones added during the big class updates) are ok - All unlocks allowed
I like the idea of the whole "melee-only" mode, but making it literally medieval is just fucking stupid. I really think the degradation of TF2 happened at the point that the sword was conceived.
Medieval Medic is bad. Should have been the Frankenstein-looking pack on Polycount shown a little while ago instead.
Medieval Medic is bad. Should have been the Frankenstein-looking pack on Polycount shown a little while ago instead.
bonesaw upgrade and a way to heal retards and people 50 feet away best pack
So you decided to wait instead of giving us the results even though the latter won in your little poll?
Uhhh...? Me and CHH4 are managing the exact same survey... CHH4 seems to have better luck with emailing Robin than I do. We'll both show the results to him and all you guys in the end, but Robin will probably interact with CHH4 more.
You said earlier to rate you useful to see the results immediately and friendly to wait for more, more people rated you useful and you waited instead of posting results.
Damn, I forgot about that post. Although due to the votes from the other forums, the "wait" option still wins anyway. Votes are slowin' down now, so it won't be long.
The only unbalanced weapon that really bothers me is the Amputator. I think it's the first time where instead of just being able to sarcastically remark "pfft, pure upgrade" it actually is a pure upgrade. I'm trying to think of situations where the original bonesaw is a more responsible choice...
I used to love tf2 when I played it on xbox without the updates and such, I do have it for pc. But I don't play it because I have no idea what's going on, to many things and hats and weapons. nothing in this survey makes sence to me. );

A good +4000 people on a survey gives you a rough idea what people want anyway, it will only scale up in numbers. So deliver!
Idiots pay more for blue text than for yellow text. You can normally get 2 yellow texts for the price of 1 blue text. Crafting is completely useless. "hurp durp it's non-vintage ill buy/sell for 1 refined"
Why are people always exaggerating how bad the whole "vintage" thing is? It gives a rarer variant of the same item for players that have played the game longer. Lots of games reward players who have played longer, in a way that doesn't actually affect anything. Kinda like the 119th update badges. If you don't care about vintage status, get non-vintage items and hats, they're cheaper anyway. Trading non-vintage items for vintage items is obviously not going to work anyway. Nobodies going to trade a rare item for a more common item that will only go down in value. He's scottish, likes to blow shit up, and is black. Why give him a sword and shield? I never got that. And I do like the crossbow, but giving the medic a medieval themed item set was stupid. Especially the hat. [editline]5th January 2011[/editline] I'm also glad that they finally gave the demo some more explosive weapons. But he did get ANOTHER FUCKING SWORD
The votes are kinda topped off, so I'll get to work on posting the results now. A few months from now, a better survey will be made. Hopefully it will be less biased and cover more aspects of the game.

Well, it's missing some things, like the game's style, hats and all that jazz.
Heres something I wish Valve would do: 1. Allow purchased weapons to be tradable and craftable 2. Sell scrap metal, reclaimed metal, and refined metals on the store at "sensible" prices Also, just for shits and giggles, they could also add a new tool called "Old smell in a can" that can make any item vintage. Boom, that makes Vintage not so annoying anymore....unless they elevate current vintages to "Priceless antiques" or something.

You're literally right back where you started except now "Priceless Antiques" will be the new Vintages. That would simply exacerbate the problem.
I declare this thread serious fucking business.
