i use the homewrecker because it's good, especially when there are so many engies now.
Axtinguisher takes skill because you have to get right up next to the enemy.
The Axetinguisher is not a particularly skill-needy weapon. It needs some good reflexes though.
But killing someone with it feels fucking extatic.
Ignite, change to melee, hit.
Not rocket science, dude.
Its based on damage done. So its only slightly random.
Don't start me on this conversation, because it's completely irrelevant, infuriating, and largely based on opinion of how much fun the mechanic is.
I find it annoying how alot of Pyros see it as a upgrade. Alot of people use the flargeun also use the Axetinguisher, but what do they have to defend themselves with underwater?
If you want to defend yourself against other Pyros, keep the default Axe or shotgun equipped.
If you want to defend yourself against other pyros, run backwards.
I use it on heavies, because you can just run in circles around them and they're often too slow/stupid to kill you before you get 2 axetinguisher hits on them.
Flamethrower
Shotgun
Homewrecker

PyBro's 4 lyf
Flaregun is more of a bro weapon because if there is some bitch sniper pissing off your homies, you can just make him pussy out.
I usually use the Axtinguisher in conjunction with Airblasting.
Doing the Fire-Airblast-Axe combo takes a bit of practice to get just right.
Though I have to say, I didn't realize that there was a debate on the skill level required to use the Axtinguisher.
i barely ever use fire axe. Because i think it's useful only when you're out of flamethrower ammo. Axtinguisher is useful for finishing off confused players or one who dare to close-combat pyro being burned.
Fire + CompressionBlast + Axtinguisher = Epic Combo!
I like using the stock Flamethrower + Flare Gun + Axetinguisher. Sure, I have nothing to defend myself underwater with, but I like to specialize. Besides, as a Pyro, I really shouldn't be hanging around water anyway. (And even then, there really aren't too many Valve maps where water is prominent)
Not IN water, but just holding space and keeping your head over the water is enough to be able hit people even underwater with a flare. Sure they don't burn, but at least you can do something. Close range is just smashing with the axtinguisher.
As long as the pyro airblasts I find him decent. The axtinguisher doesn't really change anything to me if they are still blindly charging into a group of people.
The Axtinguisher is by far my favorite unlock.
Fuck yeah Axeassin Pyros :v:
When I play pyro, I use poof, flaregun and normal axe. Don't even use the flamethrower itself, just poof enemies into the air and either flaregun them or axe them a question.
It's the most fun way to play pyro.
Most maps don't have water, it's usually not a problem. And a Pyro should be avoiding the water, anyway, since they're already at a huge disadvantage without their primary weapon.
Because most Pyros don't understand how useful their secondary weapon is too.
Also, the water problem is a big "if". What if the only way to find cover was to jump in a body of water, and you encounter another opponent there? If the map doesn't have water, feel free then to use the axetinguisher, but always use the shotgun with it, for then you wont have defense against other Pyros.
This thread has made me think about how little I use my melee weapon, so I'm going to switch to Homewrecker to become a true Pybro.
Only useful on low grav maps.
Ignite, Airblast, Chop, Repeat.
speaking of pybro's the air blast function should work under water to help drowning teammates. Just a thought for those rare occasions when you're dieing, cornered, or hiding underwater (damn Well)
This game should not encourage hiding underwater.
I like to ignite my enemies and then airblast them towards the wall over and over again so they can have some fun before they die.
I'm sorry sir, your sentence makes no sense.
I apologise, what's so stupid about my post? I'm correcting someone's sentence. If you never use something, how can you use it?
No you are right, that was a stupid question. If he never uses the axtinguisher, that must mean (following his logic) that he never ignites someone, meaning he always and only uses the shotgun lol
I find it annoying how alot of Pyros see it as a upgrade. Alot of people use the flargeun also use the Axetinguisher, but what do they have to defend themselves with underwater?

You know you can change your loadout based on your current team or map.
I love the flaregun up and down 2fort badlands and gravelpit, but I don't touch it on well.
On the subject of upgrades, given the choice between the axetuinguisher the axe or the hammer I'd never pick the hammer, the axtuinguisher is fucking amazing and the hammer is so useful and powerful enough so there's no point taking the axe.

tbh that off chance isn't worth getting rid of my weapons. I'd be better off taking the death because of all the extra points I'd score anyway.
plus I've been good enough to avoid any such situation so far.
You can airblast flares, so versus pyros, it's lethal to have Shotty.
I remember once I killed 2 pyros with only reflected flares.
[editline]07:26PM[/editline]
It's really hard to do though. The main reason you dont want flares against pyros is the pitiful damage.
The only weapon I ever use as pyro is the Homewrecker.
Running around critting heavies 3 times with it is more amusing than burning everyone.
I always use the Backburner and Axtinguisher. Depending on how big/open the map is, I sometimes use the flare gun.
Because most Pyros don't understand how useful their secondary weapon is too.

The problem is that in the vast majority of cases, the shotgun is useless compared to the flare gun. At anything other than point blank range, the flare gun does at least as much damage if not more (disregarding afterburn), and at point blank range you have the flamethrower anyway, so you don't really lose any effectiveness against Pyros compared to the shotgun. Literally the only situation you have to worry about is going underwater, which again, is where a Pyro is already weakest anyway and you should be avoiding as much as possible. I simply can't think of a case in any stock map where the only place to retreat to is the water.
