Because if he didn't fix the machine, the Manns would be dead, and there wouldn't be a TF2 anymore.

The best part though is that the sling's taunt confirms that the saw was the [B]hand itself.[/B] In other words, he used the robotic hand to cut off his regular hand to put the robotic hand were the regular hand used to be. :psypop:

My theory: he has ALWAYS had the Gunslinger - we couldn't see what was under his glove, right? He might have had lost his arm when he was a kid and Radigan gave him one. But because Valve did not explain it, the whole idea seemed strange and unfitting to me... so I picked "yes". Also - who on earth would decide to cut own arm off? Even in Star Wars all the cyborg characters had to go through some terrible circumstances to get their "enhancements", example being Darth Vader. I don't believe that good ol' fella from Texas would do this.

It looks awesome and depressing at the same time...

I am not sad. I would rather have a sweet robot arm that can cut people into smaller bits than my useless fleshy hand.

It's only sad if you haven't seen the picture of Radigan raising his arm to the heavens in scientific triumph. Even with all that blood covering his arm, you can tell it was obviously worth it.
