Didn't want any of them. Simply wanted to get my Shako back. And I ended up with two of them in the end.

Considering how many hats I was able to get just by trading one of them, I can simply trade this extra one again and not have to worry about getting another one again.

Not to mention people tend to hoard those fucking Double Vintage Merryweathers. I couldn't find anyone willing to trade theirs without some ridiculous demand. Figured that three shitty hats I didn't want was worth it. Considering I not only wanted a Double Vintage Merryweather, but it was my chance to get another Shako.

I think you did excellent. This also wasn't really scamming, but just awesome trading and knowing the hat values well. It doesn't matter what it took you too get there, it's the profit that matters.

Just open a trade with everyone offering them, and offer your merchandise every server you go. There should be someone stupid enough eventually. Eventually could mean weeks, but still...
I got the Lid from someone who didn't like it much. Basically, I went to an Orange server, offered my Master's Yellow Belt, and after a few rounds someone opened a trade with me. He put the Lid and the Napper's Respite in the trading field, asking which I wanted. I asked for the lid, and was ready to dump in some metal/my Camera Beard, since my Belt wasn't even vintage, but he immediately checked the box, and the trade was done.
I said it was one of the best trades I made, and he said he didn't care about the Lid, he just wanted the Belt, and the Lid meant nothing to him. He was happy, so I guess it's okay.

A week ago? You could get several hats for the earbuds easily. Now that the hype of the update has died down a little and people have caught on to how much stuff is generally worth, you might get one or two good hats for it. You can still find people who will trade a shitload of stuff for the earbuds but it might take a while to find the right person. Generally people tend to be less willing to do anything more than 1:1 trades anymore unless they're really gullible, really desperate, or you've got something really rare. At least compared to the first week or so of the update.
