The supply is still tiny as before the recipes were added, but the demand just dropped way down. Instead, the value of metal has skyrocketed, not only because of the set hat recipes, but also because of the unusual metal.
Rong story short, he lucked out on that deal.

During the Halloween update, I went into a 2fort server to show off my sackston hale mask. Some kid was begging me how to get it, so I told him that he had to collect 9 masks for all of the classes in TF2, then you combine it for the sackston hale mask. He begged me to trade my sackston hale mask, but I declined, and told him that I would give him one my super rare pyro halloween masks for 3 refined. We traded, and I got the fuck out. I wonder what his reaction was when he found out they weren't super rare.
