We could look at things like Guild Wars, which gives you the choice when making a character to make a pvp character and you already start off with the best gear and max level right off the back or do a pve character that does the story and your do the normal thing of leveling up and getting random gear. In the game, it has thrived of it PvP, and I'd say it's the main reason why its still alive now.

Anyway, tournament mode would be a good idea, because that's optional. But just forcing it on everyone in the entire game would be REALLY stupid.

I'd like someone to make a whip for the snoipah. It's something that actually fits him, rather than another sword. There was someone who was working on a whip before, but they either gave up or disappeared. Also, my thoughts on the pack. We are going to have lots of swords. So, so many swords. Keep the swords for Meleeman people. Valve doesn't seem to mind them.
I'm not making a sword, ha ha!
