First off, turn on Normals in the HLMV. There's an option on the first tab.

You need to improve the alpha for your texture and make sure "$basemapalphaphongmask" "1" is in your vmt. In the image below, the white areas are really shiny and the dark areas are less shiny. You basically need to just copy your texture, convert to grayscale and paste it over your alpha channel. You could also tone down the phong a bit.

This is not a good idea. It's better to just manually make an alpha. Just because something is brightly colored that doesn't mean it's shiny.

Well, come to think of it a plunger actually kind of makes sense with the pyro. After all it does match the gas attendant theme pretty well.

Reduced phong, made wood not as shiny. Still needs something visually interesting for the Torch. Gonna use something like:
