I have to disagree. I speak to manchild a few times a week, and i have to say he really tries to get people to register and ask questions to get better at modelling. I can't tell you how many times he's tried to get me to register (i already have an account, but i never post) and ask questions about modelling and shizz.

I thought sparkwire helped you out with the smoothing? Photosourcing on the bullet and wood are pretty obvious and don't really fit - I'd just paint those details in. And are you using a phong mask?

They're all built for different purposes... SPUF is for people to complain, facepunch (this thread at least) is focused on tf2 mods and games, polycount to show off art and learn new techniques - they more or less are good at what they were designed to do
Having lurked and posted at polycount for a while I disagree with it being elitist - the tf2 thread is in the pimping and previews section which is devoted to posting art and getting C&C, not making mods... even so, you see people asking questions and getting answers all the time. As for releasing stuff, as I think I've said before - it's not done because it's not common practice - most of the work there is made for fun or as portfolio pieces, which is rarely publicly released.
I can see where you're coming from, but remember it's a different community with a different purpose.

Yep, planning to do LODs - I did look at the standard cart and I've gone quite a bit higher, but I don't think I can get it down to the 11000 range without sacrificing a little detail, but I guess it'd be worth it... you're a map maker, right? What would be a good count before I start pushing it?

Well it's not just optimizing for mappers, it's optimizing for players as well. Having lots of players, effects, and everything else going on will definitely take a toll on the system. So just also keep that in mind.

What about some sort of Greek Fire for the Medieval pack?
A pyro secondary that doesn't deal damage by itself, but ignites a way harder to put out fire (like liquids not being able to put it out, a small health pack only shortening its effects and requiring longer healing by a medic/dispenser to go out). It would also be able to burn other pyros (way less damage, tho'), and, as a drawback, burn its user.

Spark did help, but the smoothing groups got lost somewhere during the exchange of .obj files. The wood isn't photosourced it's from TF2, and Im working on painting the shell right now, no phong mask as of now, but that will be included soon.
So as I was reading all the Medieval stuff I had an idea, I tried drawing it but apparently I can't draw good anymore :saddowns:
