Out of curiosity, how would I go about adding something like a knot to the top of my Holmes hat?
Like this:

That's what rapiers look like, bro.
Make it slightly less obviously cone-y then?
It has a consistent size increase that makes it look more like a cone than a rod with the ends flared out slightly.
If you get what I'm saying.
Take a plane or a really flat cube (works better) and extrude it into the form a nice knot.

Reminds me of Dead Rising 2 for some weird reason.

Yeah, I can see what you mean. I'll taper it a little.

Sparkwire offered to do some custom animations. It fits pretty well with the default Eternal Reward ones too though.
Also, I suck at jigglebones. That little tassle will be the death of me.
oh god, this is so sexy. I really hope valve accepts your set.
@funky disco - I don't know how blender does it but seeing as you have 3ds max experience you should know what im talking about... use splines then constrain your string to it - should be easier
@nzdjh, is that the final texture? Could do with some more detail and IMO the tassle should be longer to really be noticeable jiggled
I've been working off and on on the bomb cart... hopefully we can get the electricity theme rolling again :)

If I do that then it'll be a string knot whereas I'm going for more of a ribbon-y knot like in the picture I posted.

god damn it this fucking knot

Requesting this hat.
I have an idea for a new weapon for the Pyro, it's a gigantic match. You can strike it by hitting the wall, the ground, or an enemy player. It stays lit for about 5 seconds and then goes out.
While lit, it ignites struck players and does normal fire axe damage. Striking it on an enemy does the equivalent amount of damage that a mini-crit hit from the regular fire axe does.
Hitting an ignited player more than once while the match is lit does crits, just like the flare gun does. After it goes out it deals half the normal damage of the fire axe and it can be replaced by touching the resupply cabinet.
I don't have a good idea for what I'll be naming it. Here's some concept art.
Drew a Pyro glove in there for reference.

You are free to try and model this for yourself, I have no idea how to model or do anything like that, all I want is credit for the idea.
I like the idea of a fire melee, but that torch WiP posted in the last emporium looked more promising. If you want to continue this idea, my advice would be to shift it to a form of "Zippo-pole": a 3-foot hollow handle with a lighter fluid container at the base and the part you flick with your finger being at the business end. The usual little gear that you have to turn could be jagged.

here, have some real (more like real shitty lmao) concept art.

i figure the taunt is just like the normal air guitar except he actually strikes the match, setting it on fire as if you'd lit it normally.
e: also ignore the weird giant finger, i accidentally cut it off and had to glue it back on. :(
More wip shots, this time after an actual render instead of straight out of the editor. :v:

Comments, criticism, etc.
I know the knot looks like shit, sorting that out

Shorten the flap things and make them point downwards at a more noticable angle.

damn, you beat me to making a better concept :v:
Other stuff for the pack that I'm working on.

of course texture is color block out. Planning on fixing the gold to match the yellow of the gloves and adding a pattern to it.
(agree) 1 version to be more loose, which seems to be popular among my initial audience.
(disagree) 2nd version was meant to be super tight to throw a comical tone to it.
thoughts and ideas?

hey feel free to make another. really mine was just an excuse to use my tablet again since I found the pen for it the other day

I actually kinda like this idea, but it seriously needs to be executed a little differently. Don't know how, it just seems too bland.

First one is better, gives the pyro a more Evil look.
There's enough comical hats for him.
I actually really like that match idea. How about... it's got some kinda lighting mechanism on it and it works similarly to the demoman's bottle, except it catches fire instead of breaking, lighting whoever it touches on fire?
Shorter, more angled brims. Ker-blam:

C&C go
:sigh:
Seeing all these awesome hat skins being made makes me wish that my computer wasn't a bitch that refused to let skins for hats function. Whenever I try to install a skin for any hat at all TF2 decides it would be funny to malfunction and crash whenever I try to edit my loadout or join a server.
Even better, even if I delete the skin it continues to do this until I reinstall the game, which led to 9 reinstalls last week.
damn, you beat me to making a better concept :v:
also i would imagine as soon as he switches to it, as he pulls it out it swipes on the ground and lights, you could set players on fire, as you melee them and maybe the taunt would be him moving it back and forth like a lighter at a concert and he hums the tf2 theme or something? i like the match concept.
Stupid question but are you installing them correctly? (models go into models/player etc, materials/models/player... follows .gcf structure)

You'd use a flatter mesh rather than a cylinder...

Yes, I've been installing skins for 2 years, so I think I know what I am doing.

i was about to make a suggestion for its mechanics but then i choked on a jaffa cake and forgot it. :T

The problem solver is the nicest sounding out of all 3, kinda gives the feeling the hammer head is to blow off if you hit a player, interesting.
