This was totally worth doing, bald heavies, bald heavies everywhere, man. :buddy:
Meh, I tried to remove hats a few times by editing item_games.txt even before you talk about it here, but there's one thing I can't change, when I remove a hat, it appears on the floor, or on the head of the guy I just killed, it's bothering me, and I need some help to avoid that.
Instead of commenting out the model name for certain hats, change the model to the pistol bullet casing model.
The bullet casing model is so small that you cannot see it, and players won't appear to wear the hats when they die.
It's a bit hacky but it works.
And where can I find it ?
Btw, I don't understand how your site works :colbert: Maybe I missed something but I thought there would be something to download.
As much as I do not mind the hats in TF2, this is still very handy in case I ever run into a particularly horrendous hat that I would like to disable. Well done. :tiphat:

Red flag for a serial killer.

It uses tortoiseSVN, which is a program that is used for version tracking and downloading content.
You need to get a SVN program like tortoiseSVN to use this. Someone could just post the text file if they wanted to.
Yeah, please send it in a .zip or .rar file, I don't understand how it works ...
I didn't know it was dumb to not want a lot of unecessarry visuals in a game.
I guess I must be really dumb for playing most of my games on low detail then.
TortoiseSVN was giving my an error so I updated and now it doesn't work at all fuck >:C
I don't have a folder labeled "items" in my scripts folder... should I make one?
I don't have a folder labeled "items" in my scripts folder... should I make one?
yea
Heck no, a tf2 player without his hat is like a man without a soul :frown:
Because SVN is the most logical way to do it, i find.
Yeah, using a whole SVN for one file, real logical.

It's better than redoing the file every time Valve updates.
You realize that when Valve updates, it deletes the file right? So you have to start over from scratch. With SVN i can just run a SVN update with the new text file and it will comment out everything i had previously.
I wasn't originally using this SVN to share it with people but hey, since i'm using SVN to maintain my updates i might as well have it public.

Wat do
I think you're supposed to be using https.
nope, same problem
Hm, just download it directly (there's a link in the op) and i'll see if anything is wrong with it later.
I'm using the modded items_game.txt and when I was going through the //'s, I noticed that you blocked out some paint colors. I have a couple hats painted team spirit, and they still show, but are the fuck-ugly ones like that horrid lime green and bright pink disabled? The text file uses hex codes instead of the color codes available on the tf2 wiki, so I'm not to sure which colors are off and which are on.
You can still make a zip release alongside it too, now you've got yourself troubleshooting people's SVN problems... just saying it could be easier.

You mean like the link in the OP that links to a static download of the file?

I can't disaable paints, to my knowledge. I wasn't aware there was anything about them in items_game.txt even.
How about making a second txt file which only lets you see the normal class fitting hats?

Not sure what you mean by this. You mean only the original hats from the first update?
No more Dr. Seuss crap and Traffic cones?
Awesome!
I mean the original hats like Viking helm , texas ten, Ushanka etc.
Well, it's not really worth it after all, sure it removes the model, but I did that before, and it's not 100% finished since the model appears on the ground.
*sigh* I just hope Valve will make something about the hats.

I don't mind seeing hats on the ground as long as i don't see them on a player's head. If it really matters then replace the model names with "models/weapons/shell.mdl" (i think that's the model).

Up until which update?
Well until before promo items and community hats were added.
