a bit too noisy near the chest imo (especially the grenade replacements)
a bit too noisy near the chest imo (especially the grenade replacements)
Things would probably not be as sharp and contrasty on the finished things,
for the sake of this concept i had to clearly mark things out though.
-snip-
You could nix the pants, fix the suspenders, and have the flap for the zipper hanging open slightly towards the neck, exposing the zipper pull. I also can't find any suspenders that match what you've made. I have never seen suspenders that cross across the chest like that. Unless it's lederhosen, or a dog harness.
Has everyone forgotten that as modders, we do not make up a majority of the TF2 community? And that most of them (the TF2 community), are rather dense when it comes to an items readability? I haven't. I know people are going to act dumb and point out that it looks like Pyro, and they are going to do so endlessly. It's a cool item, but I expect most players (not from Facepunch) to immediately latch on to the fact that it looks exactly like Pyro's jump-suit. There have also been previous models that cover up large portions of a class' team coloring, and from what I've seen, that has always been a bad thing. So what's going on here?
Why not make a shirt that doesn't look like something another class is already wearing? Or is everyone already out of ideas?
That looks way too much like Pyro. The only diffrerence being the collar, zipper, and the fact he has exposed flesh. You even gave it suspenders... why does it need suspenders? The suspenders don't even have clasps.

Not saying it doesn't look good. Just looks too much like Pyro's suit, which isn't good.
They're not quite suspenders, it's a harness. It's not holding up his pants, it's holding up his toolbelt and pouches. They have to keep those original straps on his shoulders because if they model over it, it's just super chunky shoulders. They're too thick. It's better to work with it than go against the grain and make it weird.
Question:
Will this ever get finished?
Probably at some point, they are mostly finished model wise, its just lying around to be finished whenever me and quinn get around to it.
I'm also working on this.

Then why not make it look more like an actual harness? To make the straps less bulky, add shoulder pads, instead of making stupidly fat straps to cover the ones that already there.

I think the current straps are fine, they get the job done, and they aren't too noisy.

I don't think it will be a big issue, I don't however understand the appeal in the concept. seems really plain and I'm not really sure if it's based on something

Nixing the pants would force me to either make the gradient far too sharp or have it look like a shirt instead of a jumpsuit which would ruin the whole point of the item. as for the zipper that seems needlessly complicated and detailed plus we're already hitting the polylimit and as for the suspenders that is explained below.
When it comes the the workshop probably saying it looks too close to pyro too i suppose we'll just have to do the usual "pyro, not pyro" kind of comparison where it's clearly shown how dissimilar they are.
as for the criticism towards this supposedly being unoriginal i guess that's just the reality of the situation, most types of fitting clothing for tf2 have in some way already been around for a while, it's all a challenge of making something new enough and make it look interesting as apposed to only making things that are 100% original and unique (which, spoiler alert, is more or less impossible) and i don't think that just because one class has a type of clothing that should stop every other class from having something similar as long as it doesn't actually effect class readability, which honestly takes a lot of effort to break.

Yeah the theme for the set its from is "ol' field mechanic" so i figured a mechanics jumpsuit with the kind of harnesses soldiers used to wear would make a good item. it was originally going to have a pair of pouches to further bring out that theme but there simply wasn't enough polies.

trying this is already planned (however not nearly as modern looking and more in the way that medics suspenders do it) remember how i said we we're gonna fix the straps when i first posted it?
I think the current straps are fine, they get the job done, and they aren't too noisy.
I was only posting the picture to reference the shoulder pads that are usually attached to a harness. Not the excess of details on it. You guys seem to have a very skewed idea of what a harness is. These things are usually designed for holding weight, and having the straps sit directly on your shoulders without padding is highly illogical when you're carrying heavy tools. They also aren't used very often for small tool carrying or for anything outside of some serious heavy duty work. So why not make it look like it?
EDIT:
-snip-
I think that the covering up of Engy's lower area with a team color is an issue still and I don't see how removing the pants would change how sharp the gradient is. Yeah, you did say you were going to change the straps, but you didn't give any sort of descriptions as to how you were going to improve them other than "I'm going to change the shape."
Looks fine to me.

i was taking a lot of reference from like ww1 type stuff and those harnisess were even simpler than the ones we got on this, but like i've mentioned, those aren't done so no need to go on about them

No, see now it looks like he's wearing a shirt and pants, no one is going to look at that and think it's a jumpsuit
That's because Pyro wears the jump-suit in the relationship, Engy wears the pants.

To me this actually almost further proves their point. Even with the pyro head and gloves I still see it as engineer. Now imagine it slouched in Engineer's posture, it will look like engineer even more clearly. The utility belt with the big pouch and knee pads just plain out look like engineer. No matter the colors they have on this engineer it is going to look like engineer. Not pyro. Valve wanted us to keep cosmetics within silhouette and color platelet. That his suit stays within both and there is nothing harmful about the suit.
Has anyone ever tried making this into a Buffalo Steak reskin?

otterwolfy, my dear, chap - you may want to move somewhere else and lay low for a little; Valve is said to launch airstrikes at any leaker's house as long as the leaker is present inside the house.

I am going to do a Fix-pack for mat_phong 0, which fixes some items being ugly.
Fists of Steel on mat_phong 0 before the fix:

When i am done with other "broken" items, should i make a download for it?

It's been a while since I made a mod for the sake of making a mod, so I thought I might break into Alien Swarm to check out a few of their weapons. After a bit of proportion modifications...

[t]http://oi41.tinypic.com/k1ao41.jpg[/t]
We have Wildcat's minigun for Heavy.
Looking at these weapons, I thought I'd see at least some reused assets - bone structure, similar meshes, even naming conventions. But nope - it's all brand new stuff, which made importing this into TF2 a rather enjoyable challenge. Mod release soon!
