You can never have too many weird gasmasks. The ugliness only makes the mask more interesting, if it looked like another generic gasmask it would just be plain and boring.

Couldn't you make the rolls just be solid cylinders so it envelops his bullets? It's not like being unable to see through the tubes will be a dealbreaker.

Why not just indent the middle of the ends of the rolls and create a texture that gives the illusion of it being see-through? If it dips in to the tip of the bullet and there is a depression that creates a blindspot, I don't see why that would be an issue.
